An electrical connector assembly includes a pin header that can be mounted in an opening in an electrically conductive case . The pin header includes a molded pin header housing that can be used in unfiltered as well as filtered and shielded versions. The filtered and shielded versions include a ground shield or that includes segmented cantilever tangs or extending along peripheral edges of the shield member or . These tangs or mechanically grip the electrically conductive case to establish ground continuity. One version of the ground shield can be mounted on a printed circuit board to which filter capacitors are soldered.

Electrical connectors ( ) including contact terminals that can be unmated without previously disconnecting power include main contacts ( ) and auxiliary contacts ( ) that are shunted by a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor ( ) located between the main and auxiliary contact. The main contact ( ) will be disconnected first and the auxiliary contact ( ) can be longer than the main contact ( ). Arcing will not occur at the mating end of the main contact ( ), because the current will be shunted to the still connected longer auxiliary contact ( ). I R heating will increase the resistance in the PTC resistor ( ), so when the auxiliary contact ( ) is disconnected, current will be below the arcing threshold. Multiple latches ( A,B) and ( A,B) or ( ) and ( ) permit only discontinuous mating and unmating or two state mating and unmating of electrical connectors, so that the connectors can be disconnected without arcing for a range of currents.

An electrical connector assembly (1) having a housing (10) and a subassembly (80) connected thereto for eliminating circuit-degrading EMI. Subassembly (80) includes a substrate (20) mounted to a frame (30). Substrate (20) comprises a rigid board with circuit traces (25,26), electrical components (28), and a pin array (22) thereby defining an electrical circuit path. Frame (30) is electrically connected to the circuit path and comprises a robust, metallic piece having locking clips (36) for electrically and mechanically attaching subassembly (80) to housing (10).

An input/output electrical connector header 102 includes at least two rows of terminal pins 140 which can be connected to two separate printed circuit boards 106 and 108. The same header 102 provides input and output for both printed circuit boards 106, 108. The terminal pins 140 in each of the rows extend through openings 130 in the same header housing wall 126. A separable interconnection is made between pins in a second terminal row and a second printed circuit board 108 at the rear of the header 102. This separate connection can be established by a separate multiposition connector 114, 214, 314 or 414 containing receptacle contacts 116, 216, 316, 416 respectively. In other embodiments, this separate connector 514, 614, 714 and 1214, includes the terminal pins in the second terminal row in the separate connector. In still other embodiments, the terminal pins in the second terminal row 840, 940, 1040 and 1140, are stamped and formed contacts with a printed circuit board edge contact 890, 990, 1090, and 1190 respectively located at the rear end of the terminal pin.

Electrical connector for dual printed circuit boards

An electrical connector in which preselected terminals are shunted. Contact portions of the terminals are aligned with a shunt bar and are resiliently deformable from positions engaging the shunt bar in an unmated condition of the connector to positions spaced from the shunt bar in a mated condition of the connector by mating engagement with a complimentary connector. The shunt bar comprises a bridge portion from which contact lugs depend spaced asymmetrically along the bridge. Two shunt bars are located in tandem in back-to-back relation in a connector housing so that alternate contact tongues are aligned with respective contact lugs on respective shunt bars.
