Methods and systems are provided for operating a vehicle including an engine and a fuel system. In one embodiment, a water drainage system for a fuel system comprises a fuel tank, a fuel-water separator in fluid communication with the fuel tank, and a purge tank in fluid communication with the fuel-water separator and the fuel tank, the purge tank separate from the fuel tank. The water drainage system further includes a fuel property sensor for detecting a presence of water and a purge line in fluid communication with the purge tank for removing fluid from the purge tank, a flow of the fluid from the purge tank controlled by a check valve.

Various methods and systems are provided for detecting particles generated from engine component degradation within an engine system. In one embodiment, a method for an engine comprises indicating engine degradation in response to a buildup of particles in a magnetic field, the magnetic field positioned in a flow of gas.

A system for automated water drainage in a fuel system includes a fuel-water separator, a water sensor, first and second drain valves, a drain pressure sensor, and a control system, which is operably connected to the first and second drain valves, the water sensor, and the drain pressure sensor. The water sensor is disposed in the fuel-water separator for detecting the presence of water. The first drain valve is in fluid communication with the fuel-water separator, and the second drain valve is in fluid communication with the first drain valve; a fluid duct connects the first and second drain valves. The drain pressure sensor is positioned in the fluid duct, for detecting pressure levels in the fluid duct. The control system automatically operates the first and second drain valves, for removing purge liquid from the fuel-water separator, based on signal outputs of the water sensor and the drain pressure sensor.

A system is provided for monitoring radial motion of a rotating shaft of a turbocharger. The turbocharger includes a compressor and a turbine coupled to opposing ends of the shaft. The system includes a thrust collar including a cylindrical portion and a flange configured to radially extend from one end of the cylindrical portion. The thrust collar is configured to rotate with the shaft. A sensor is positioned within a separation of an outer surface of the thrust collar flange, and the sensor is configured to monitor the separation as indicative of the radial motion of the shaft. Additionally, a method is provided for monitoring radial motion of a rotating shaft of a turbocharger.

Traction motor speed sensor support arrangement

An inverter contact switch has a first pair of spaced fixed contacts connected to respective terminals of an inverter circuit for selectively disconnecting and connecting the inverter to a DC power bus. A first pair of spaced movable contacts are positioned on opposite sides of the fixed contacts. A drive actuator is coupled to the movable contacts for concurrently driving the movable contacts into substantially simultaneous engagement with the pair of fixed contacts for establishing a circuit path from one of the fixed contacts through each of the movable contacts to another of the fixed contacts. The switch may include a second pair of fixed and movable contacts operatively connected to a DC return bus and another terminal of the inverter for isolating the inverter from both the power and return buses. The switch also includes flux concentrators positioned adjacent the fixed contacts for concentrating electromagnetic flux generated by current through the closed contacts so as to counteract repulsive forces at the contact interfaces due to very large inverter currents.
