The disclosure provides certain porous membranes comprised of cyclic polyolefin polymers, such as poly(norbornene)s. In one embodiment, a poly(norbornene) polymer is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran, cast into a film and subjected to solvent induced phase separation to provide a porous filter membrane (i.e., film).

Porous poly (cyclic olefin) membranes

A process for the preparation of high purity norbornene alkyl silyl ether is disclosed and claimed. Specifically, a process for the preparation of industrial scale high purity norbornene methyl silyl ether is disclosed and claimed. The high purity monomers prepared in accordance with the process of this invention are useful in a variety of applications including but not limited to the preparation of high quality and high purity polynorbornenes having utility in a variety of electronic applications, among various other applications.

Process for the preparation of high purity norbornene silyl ethers

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass a composition comprising one or more of polycyclic olefinic monomers of formula (I) and one or more monomers of formula (III) for forming anion exchange membrane optionally in combination with one or more monomers of formula (II). The composition undergoes mass vinyl addition polymerization either under thermal or photolytic conditions and can be formed into ionomers on a suitable membrane support. The membrane supports thus formed are suitable as anion exchange membranes for fabricating a variety of electrochemical devices, among others. More specifically, the ionomeric membranes are formed on a variety of supports which contains a variety of quaternized amino functionalized norbornene monomeric units which are lightly crosslinked (less than five mol %). The membranes so formed exhibit very high ionic conductivity of up to 280 mS/cm at 80° C. The electrochemical devices made in accordance of this invention are useful as fuel cells, gas separators, and the like.

Supported membranes by thermal and UV initiated mass polymerization

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass a variety of polymers derived from polycyclic olefin monomers, such as hydrocarbon functionalized norbornenes. The polymers so formed function as ionomers and are suitable as anion exchange membrane for fabricating a variety of electrochemical devices, among others. More specifically, the ionomeric polymers used herein are derived from a variety of quaternized amino functionalized norbornene monomers and are lightly crosslinked (less than ten mol %). The membranes made therefrom exhibit very high ionic conductivity of up to 198 mS/cm at 80° C. This invention also relates to using an anion conducting solid polymer electrolyte as the ion conducting medium between the two electrodes and the ion conducting medium within the electrodes acting as the ionic conduit between electroactive material and electrolyte. The electrochemical devices made in accordance of this invention are useful as fuel cells, gas separators, and the like.

Polycyloolefinic polymers and anion exchange membranes derived therefrom

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass a composition containing a latent catalyst and a compound capable of generating a Bronsted acid with a counterion capable of coordinating and activating the latent catalyst along with one or more monomers which undergo ring open metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and one or more multi-functional crosslinkable molecules when said composition is exposed to a suitable radiation forms a three-dimensional (3D) object. The catalyst system employed therein can be sensitive to oxygen and thus inhibits polymerization in ambient atmospheric conditions. The three-dimensional objects made by this process exhibits improved mechanical properties, particularly, high distortion temperature, impact strength, elongation to break, among others. Accordingly, compositions of this invention are useful as 3D inkjet materials for forming high impact strength objects of various sizes with microscale features lower than 100 microns, among various other uses.

High impact strength 3D printing materials derived from polycycloolefin monomers and crosslinkers

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass compositions comprising a organopalladium compound, a photoacid generator, a photosensitizer and one or more olefinic monomers which undergo vinyl addition polymerization when said composition is exposed to a suitable actinic radiation to form a substantially transparent film. The monomers employed therein have a range of optical and mechanical properties, and thus these compositions can be tailored to form films having various opto-electronic properties. Accordingly, compositions of this invention are useful in various applications, including as coatings, encapsulants, fillers, leveling agents, among others.

UV active derivatives of Pd(AcAc)catalyzed polycycloolefin compositions as optical materials

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass compositions containing one or more polycycloolefinic monomers and at least one multifunctional olefinic monomer which when subjected to a suitable temperature undergoes mass polymerization to provide a three-dimensional insulating article which exhibits hitherto unattainable low dielectric constant and low-loss properties, and very high thermal properties. The compositions of this invention may additionally contain one or more organic or inorganic filler materials, which provide improved thermo-mechanical properties in addition to very low dielectric properties. The compositions are stable at room temperature and undergo mass polymerization only when subjected to suitable higher temperatures generally above 100° C. The compositions of this invention are useful in various applications, including as insulating materials in millimeter wave radar antennas, among others.

Polycyclic-olefinic compositions for low-loss films having improved thermal properties

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention relate generally to a variety of norbornene derivatives exhibiting olfactive properties and are suitable as fragrance ingredient in a number of personal care products including lotions and shampoo. More specifically, this invention relates to various fragrance compositions containing one or more of a compound of formulae (IA) or (IB): Wherein m, R, Rand Rare as defined herein. The compounds of formulae (IA) or (IB) are useful as perfume augmenting, modifying, enhancing, and imparting compositions. The compositions of this invention are therefore useful in a variety of products including shampoo, lotions, skin care products, hair products, sanitary products, among various other personal care products.

Fragrance compositions containing norbornene derivatives for personal care products

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass compositions containing a latent organo-ruthenium carbide catalyst, a photoactive acid generator or a thermally active acid generator and a photoactive compound along with one or more monomers which undergo ring open metathesis polymerization (ROMP) when said composition is exposed to a suitable radiation (or heat) to form a three-dimensional (3D) object. The three-dimensional objects made by this process exhibits improved mechanical properties, particularly, high distortion temperature, impact strength, elongation to break, among others. Accordingly, compositions of this invention are useful as 3D inkjet materials for forming high impact strength objects of various sizes with microscale features lower than 100 microns, among various other uses.

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass a two component composition containing in one component a latent organo-ruthenium carbide catalyst, and in another component a photoactive acid generator or a thermally active acid generator, and either of the components containing a mixture of photoactive compound along with one or more monomers which undergo ring open metathesis polymerization (ROMP) when said components are mixed together and exposed to a suitable radiation (or heat) to form a three-dimensional (3D) object. The three-dimensional objects so formed exhibits improved mechanical properties, particularly, high heat distortion temperature, impact strength, elongation to break, among others. Accordingly, compositions of this invention are useful as 3D inkjet materials for forming high impact strength objects of various sizes with microscale features lower than 100 microns, among various other uses.

Two component mass polymerizable compositions containing polycycloolefin monomers and organoruthenium carbide precatalyst

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention encompass compositions comprising a long shelf stabilized organopalladium compound of formula (I) as described herein. The composition further contains a photoacid generator, a photosensitizer and one or more olefinic monomers as described herein. The shelf life of the compositions can further be extended by employing a stabilizer, such as for example, a hindered amine. The composition undergoes vinyl addition polymerization when it is exposed to a suitable actinic radiation to form a substantially transparent film or a three dimensional object. More specifically, the compositions of this invention are stable at room temperature for several days to several months and can also be stored at higher temperatures from about 40&#xb0; C. to 60&#xb0; C. for several days and undergo mass polymerization only when subjected to suitable actinic radiation. The monomers employed therein have a range of optical and mechanical properties, and thus these compositions can be tailored to form films and/or three dimensional objects having various opto-electronic properties. Accordingly, compositions of this invention are useful in various applications, including as coatings, encapsulants, fillers, leveling agents, sealants, adhesives, among others.
