A method for polymerizing an aromatic multi-functional carbodiimide by contacting the aromatic multi-functional carbodiimide with a carboxylic acid salt at a temperature from 15&#xb0; C. to 90&#xb0; C.

Curing of aromatic carbodiimides

A two-component urethane system. The first component is a hydroxy-terminated polyester polyol containing polymerized residues of phthalic acid and an aliphatic diol having Mfrom 60 to 150, and having no more than 15 wt % polymerized residues of aliphatic acids. The second component is an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer containing polymerized residues of diphenyl methane diisocyanate and/or toluene diisocyanate and a glycol or polyol having Mfrom 90 to 1000.

Low-viscosity urethane system

A method for improving flow of a two-component urethane system by adding a hydroxy-functional acrylic polymer.

Flow additive for urethane system

An isocyanate-terminated prepolymer having three components. The first component is 30-60 wt % polymerized residues of a first polyol containing a substituent of formula (I) attached via a carbon-carbon single bond to a saturated carbon atom in a fatty acid hydrocarbyl group; wherein Rand Rare esterified residues of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diols; and wherein the first polyol contains: (i) from 0.33 to 0.4 units of formula (I) per fatty acid hydrocarbyl group, and (ii) from 0 to 12 wt % esterified residues of at least one C-Canhydride, C-Cdiacid or C-Clactone, not including units of formula (I) attached to a fatty acid hydrocarbyl group; and wherein the first polyol has a hydroxyl number from 75 to 150 mg KOH/g. The second component is 40-55 wt % polymerized residues of diphenyl methane diisocyanate. The third component is 0-20 wt % polymerized residues of a glycol having Mfrom 300 to 3500.

Isocyanate-terminated prepolymer

A moisture-reactive hot-melt adhesive composition is provided. Particularly, a composition that includes a polyisocyanate and at least two polyols, one of which is a fatty polyol. Also provided is a method for bonding substrates using the adhesive.

Urethane polymer compositions

A moisture-reactive hot-melt adhesive composition is provided. Particularly, a composition that includes a polyol, an anhydride-functional polymer, and a polyisocyanate. Also provided are a method for forming the adhesive composition and a method for bonding substrates using the adhesive.

A moisture reactive hot melt adhesive composition formed by admixing components including a polyisocyanate, an amorphous polyol, tri-C1-C6-alkyl citrate in the amount of 1.3 to 6% by weight based on the weight of said adhesive composition, and styrene/allyl alcohol copolymer having a hydroxyl number of 100-300 and Mn of 1,000-4,000 in the amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight based on the weight of said adhesive composition, wherein the ratio of NCO/OH groups of the components on an equivalents basis is from 1.05 to 2.5, the components being free from crystalline polyesters and polyethers and the components containing less than 1%, by weight based on the total weight of the components, of water is provided. Also a method for forming the adhesive composition and a method for bonding two substrates using the adhesive are provided.

Hot melt adhesive

A moisture-reactive hot-melt adhesive composition is provided. Particularly, a composition that includes a polyether polyol, a polyester polyol, a styrene/allyl alcohol copolymer, and a polyisocyanate. More particularly, the components are chosen so that the ratio of NCO/OH groups on an equivalents basis is from 1.8/1 to 3.0/1; the components contain less than 1% by weight of water; the weight ratio of polyether polyol to polyester polyol is at least 0.42; and the free NCO content is at least 5.5% by weight. Also provided are a method for forming the adhesive composition and a method for bonding substrates using the adhesive.

Hot-melt adhesive

A moisture reactive hot melt adhesive composition formed by admixing components including a polyisocyanate, an amorphous polyol and 0.1 to 10%, by weight based on the weight of the adhesive composition, of certain styrene/allyl alcohol copolymers, wherein the ratio of NCO/OH groups of the components on an equivalents basis is from 1.05 to 2.5, the components being free from crystalline polyesters and polyethers and the components containing less than 1%, by weight based on the total weight of the components, of water is provided. Also a method for forming the adhesive composition and a method for bonding two substrates using the adhesive are provided.

A one-part, moisture-cure urethane adhesive composition contains between 1 and 10 phr .gamma.-butyrolactone which acts as a moisture diffusion agent, thereby promoting a more rapid cure.
