Given a situation where a projected laser line appears to have terminated or faded as it intersects with a work-surface (e.g., a wall), a fan-out redirecting means is used to capture and redirect energy radiating above and parallel to, or radiating away from the given work-surface area, where the captured energy is from a line projector mounted to the surface. The radiation capturing and redirecting means aims the captured energy at a greater angle towards the work-surface so that the redirected light is thereafter reflected back to a user to give the perception that a line of enhanced intensity or reborn existence is being created on the work-surface or on a reflective overlayer placed against the work-surface. The radiation capturing and redirecting means may include one or both of optically refractive means and optically reflective means (e.g., lens and mirrors) for performing the capturing and/or redirecting functions.

Methods and devices for enhancing intensity of on-surface lines cast by laser line projectors or the like

A transmitter that is electrically connected to a circuit and an associated receiver is used to identify an element of that circuit in the presence of other circuits. This may be used in AC or DC systems that are powered or not to identify or trace circuit elements such as lines, junctions, switches, fuses, or breakers. One version that identifies the circuit breaker of the circuit connected to the transmitter in a powered AC distribution system.

Electrical circuit tracing and identifying apparatus and method

A device providing reverse polarization protection for a battery having both positive and negative terminals disposed at one end of the battery (e.g., a 9 volt &ldquo;transistor radio&rdquo; battery). The device is adapted for insertion between the battery terminals and the spring contacts in a battery housing. The device is made from an electrically insulating material (e.g., plastic), and has at least two openings of unequal size defined through it. The first opening has a diameter larger than that of a negative terminal of the battery, while the second opening has a diameter larger than that of a positive terminal of the battery. The second opening is sized such that the negative terminal of the battery cannot pass through it, thus providing the required mechanical interference for reverse polarity protection. The thickness of the device is less than the height of the battery terminals. The device is capable of moving freely along the axis defined by the length of the battery in conjunction with spring contact compression/decompression, while being retained within the battery housing. Since the device is thereby able to move, or &ldquo;float&rdquo;, the product's spring contacts may be the only compliant components.

Device for reverse polarization protection for a battery

A recombinant lead acid battery is provided having positive and negative plates coated with active material and separated by a compressible separator material containing an electrolyte. A casing provides structural support for the plates and encases the battery's components. The battery is preferably a recombinant lead acid battery with its plates being formed of lead foil sheets. The casing is reinforced and arranged to i) maintain a substantially evenly distributed compressive force on the separator material and ii) maintain a constant spacing between the plates. The battery is arranged to maintain a compressive force of at least eight psi on the plates which has been found to significantly reduce the incidence of premature capacity loss (PCL). By way of example, compressive forces in the range of 8-14 psi work well for conventional separator materials. In one embodiment, the casing includes a plurality of reinforcing support pins extending between upper and lower casing members through the plates and separator material for maintaining the evenly distributed pressure. Plates may be slacked one above another to provide a plurality of cells. A method of making the battery is also described.
