Machinery for automated manufacture of formed wire structures such as innerspring assemblies for mattresses and seating and flexible support structures includes one or more coil formation devices configurable to produce helical spring coils having a terminal convolution which extends beyond an end of the coil; a conveyor system having a plurality of flights slidably mounted upon a continuous track and connected to a chain and driven by an index driver, the flights being connected to a drive system which enables variable spacing between the flights so that the conveyor can be loaded with articles at one spacing interval and be unloaded at a different interval; a coil transfer machine which removes a row of coils from the conveyor and inserts the coils into an innerspring assembler; an innerspring assembler having first and second sets of coil-engaging dies in a parallel arrangement, each set of dies having an upper row positioned over a lower row, the dies being mounted upon carrier bars which are vertically translated within the innerspring assembler to diverge the upper and lower dies of a set to allow positioning of a row of uncompressed coils between the upper and lower dies, and to converge the upper and lower dies upon a row of coils to compress and thereby securely hold the coils in a row; a coil interconnection device for interconnecting adjacent rows of coils in the first and second sets of dies by attachment of fastening means about the adjacent coils; and an indexer assembly engageable with the carrier bars and operative to laterally translate the carrier bars, whereby the lateral position of the first and second sets of dies can be exchanged to provide continuous attachment of rows of coils to produce an interconnected array of coils as an innerspring assembly.

A compact, 4-chamber gas meter comprising crankpost and valve drive mechanisms whereby each reciprocating valve moves from a stroke shifting point near center to a stroke endpoint and back to said stroke shifting point with each 180.degree. rotation of the crankpost and each stroke of each diaphragm occurs over said 180.degree. rotation of the crankpost.

A carburetor assembly having a venturi element for fuel metering and a throttle valve for controlling the flow of an air and natural gas mixture to the combustion chamber of an internal combustion gas engine wherein a stepper motor is used to angularly position a throttle valve plate in the gas flow path to the carburetor, the throttle valve plate being carried on a throttle valve shaft that forms an extension of the armature of the stepper motor wherein provision is made for sealing the stepper motor at a location on the axis of rotation of the throttle valve element, the throttle valve shaft being mounted without the necessity for using throttle valve shaft bearings or a separate seal, thereby minimizing friction and any tendency for a misalignment to occur.

Carburetor assembly for an internal combustion gas engine

A heat pump system comprised of an internal combustion engine and a rigidly connected refrigeration compressor is provided with a vibration isolation support having compression springs which have spring rates and natural vibration frequencies that are substantially less than the lowest operating frequency of the internal combustion engine/refrigeration compressor combination.

A storage rack entry vehicle for transporting loads of substantial weight in a warehousing system includes a plurality of wheels spaced from each other in the direction of both the length and the width of the vehicle and which support the vehicle for movement upon rails. The vehicle also includes an elevatable platform which supports the loads on the vehicle and distributes the load weight to locations adjacent each of the wheels. A rigid plate connects both the wheels and the load supports. However, this rigid plate is sufficiently flexible such that the plate flexes to maintain all of the wheels in continuous contact with the rails where one of the rails may vary in elevation such that at least one of the wheels might otherwise move out of contact with the rail surface.

A flue restrictor for installation in the flue piping of a heating system to reduce its effective cross sectional area comprises sheet metal inlet and outlet sections having flanges secured together in a joint that has a guideway in it for a sheet metal gate valve that may be transversely positioned to produce the desired cross-sectional area and riveted in place to provide a substantially tamper-proof assembly.
