A mechanical engine protection system includes a temperature responsive valve, a pressure sensing valve and a mechanical shutdown actuator. The valves and actuator are fluidly interconnected so that the actuator is shifted from a run position to a shutdown position upon the occurrence of a high engine operating temperature condition or a low oil pressure condition. The temperature responsive valve includes an inlet port, an outlet port and a drain port. A valve element is positioned by a thermally responsive unit or motor to selectively interconnect the outlet port with either the inlet port or the drain port. The pressure sensing valve includes an inlet port, an outlet port, a drain port and a pilot port. A diaphragm motor positions a valve element in response to the pressure signal applied to the control port to selectively interconnect the outlet port with the inlet port or the drain port. The shutdown actuator includes an inlet port, an actuator rod and a spring loaded diaphragm motor.

Mechanical engine protection system

A temperature responsive control device achieving sequential control of functions for engine temperature control in response to engine temperature conditions, the first function being controlled by a fluid flow valve and the subsequent function or functions being controlled by an electrical switch means actuated via the valve.

Multiple temperature actuated fluid-electric control device

A temperature responsive fluid control valve with sequential control functions, employing a pair of axially aligned hollow elongated plungers or slide pins, and a pair of ball valves and valve seats therefor. One ball valve is straddled by the two plungers, being biased onto its seat by the second plunger and shiftable off its seat by the first plunger. This ball valve controls a first fluid flow in response to a thermoresponsive sensor acting on the first plunger. The second ball valve is operated sequentially after the first, via the second plunger for control of a second sequential fluid flow using the same thermoresponsive sensor.

Temperature actuated multiple function fluid control valve

A temperature and pressure responsive fluid flow control valve, particularly useful for controlling the operation of a fluid fan drive. This valve regulates operation of the fluid fan drive by controlling the fluid flow from the fluid fan drive, in response to both engine coolant temperature and fluid pressure of the fan drive oil.
