The isolation resistance value is determined by measuring the voltage across a set of high resistance resistor networks placed between the high voltage battery pack (both the positive and negative terminals) and the chassis ground and then modifying the resistance networks by switching in an additional high resistance network and repeating the measurements. This results in a system that can be assembled using low cost components to determine with a high degree of accuracy the value of the isolation resistance. The implementation of this system does not require expensive solid state relays, as the small amount of resistance through the switching device is negligible when determining the isolation resistance of the high voltage system. The system is not dependent on high precision devices to give accurate isolation resistance detection in a range that is appropriate for high voltage applications.

High voltage isolation measurement system

A battery management system employs electronic switches and capacitors. No traditional cell-balancing resistors are used. The BMS electronically switches individual cells into and out of a module of cells in order to use the maximum amount of energy available in each cell and to completely charge and discharge each cell without overcharging or under-discharging.

Solid-state active switch matrix for high energy, moderate power battery systems

An interconnect device enables battery cells having terminals in the form of flexible tabs to be serially interconnected in a stack. The interconnect device comprises a relatively rigid substrate and at least two arrays of pins projecting from opposing first and second surfaces of the substrate. This enables the flexible tabs of the battery cell to be embedded in the pin arrays, providing a quick and easy means of fixing the tabs and enabling them to be interconnected to other cells in a stacked arrangement. A battery module formed from such a stack of cell assemblies is also disclosed.

Battery module composed of flexible battery cells and cell interconnect structure therefor

A battery assembly having batteries connected in series to form rows and columns of battery cells into packs that combine the energy of multiple batteries. The battery cells are joined together to form columns of cells connected mechanically together by an exterior connection sleeve, and mechanically and electrically connected together by a conductive epoxy joining the end of one cell to the end of an adjacent cell in series. The columns of cells are mounted and held in place by racks, with bolts passing through the racks to form a sandwich structure that secures the position and orientation of the cells and columns, and that maintains the electrical connection between joined cells. Perpendicularly disposed to the direction of the columns are a series of conductive bands that join adjacent cells together along rows of cells.
