A composite sheet is disclosed comprising a continuous matrix of a synthetic resinous material having randomly dispersed therein conductive fibers and a particulate, conductive or semi-conductive filler. In addition to providing excellent EMI shielding properties, the composite sheets are formable and are of sufficient strength to act as structural components.

A resinous composite material is disclosed containing randomly dispersed fibers and from about 0.05 to 30 percent of a particulate conductive or semi-conductive filler. In addition to providing excellent EMI shielding properties, these composites are formable and are of sufficient strength to act as structural components.

A selectively stable latex has discrete polymer particles which have present as bound charges both a pH independent charge (such as sulfonium) and a pH dependent charge of opposite polarity of the pH independent charge (such as carboxyl), wherein the two charges are present in such proportion that the latex is stable in at least one pH range and controllably unstable in at least one pH range. The latexes of the invention are extremely useful in the preparation of fibrous composites such as highly-filled composite paper and fine printing paper.

An improved aqueous slurry process for preparing reinforced polymeric composites in the absence of a flocculant comprising the steps of forming an alkaline aqueous slurry comprising a reinforcing material, a heat fusible organic polymer and a binder comprising a salt of an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer having an acrylic acid content from about 12 to about 30 percent by weight copolymer solids and adjusting the pH value of the slurry such that the binder is destabilized to coagulate the slurry. A product formed by the improved process is also provided.

Water-compatible compositions are described which consist essentially of at least one resinous compound whose backbone is linear or substantially linear and consists essentially of at least one oxyaryleneoxyalkylene or oxyaryleneoxy(1,3-(2-hydroxy)alkylene) unit and which bears at least two functional organic moieties through which cross-linking can occur (preferably groups having active hydrogen, more preferably aliphatic hydroxyl groups) and at least one terminal carbamoylpyridinium group covalently bonded through the ring nitrogen atom combined with an acid curable cross-linking agent.
