The present techniques are directed to a pipeline transporting a production fluid including hydrocarbon. An optical fiber is disposed along a length of the pipeline. A control system determines a predicted operating temperature based on pressure and flow rate of the production fluid in the pipeline. The control system determines a measured temperature along the pipeline using the optical fiber. The control system detects and locates a temperature anomaly by comparing the measured temperature of the pipeline to the predicted operating temperature.

A method and systems are provided for injecting a hydrate slurry into a reservoir. The method includes combining gas and water within a subsea simultaneous water and gas (SWAG) injection system. The method also includes forming a hydrate slurry from the gas and the water, and injecting the hydrate slurry into a reservoir.

Methods and systems are provided for producing hydrocarbons from production fluids that have water as an external phase. A method for transporting a hydrocarbon through a pipeline includes injecting water into a production stream at a production center. The production stream includes a hydrocarbon, and the water injection forms a transportation stream that includes a water external phase. The transportation stream is flowed through a transportation line to a surface facility, wherein the transportation line comprises a plurality of static mixers spaced at intervals along the transportation line.

Method of generating a non-plugging hydrate slurry

A method for managing hydrates in a subsea production system is provided. The production system includes a host production facility, a control umbilical, at least one subsea production well, and a single production line. The method generally comprises producing hydrocarbon fluids from the at least one subsea production well and through the production line, and then shutting in the production line. In addition, the method includes the steps of depressurizing the production line to substantially reduce a solution gas concentration in the produced hydrocarbon fluids, and then repressurizing the production line to urge any remaining gas in the free gas phase within the production line back into solution. The method also includes displacing production fluids within the production line by moving displacement fluids from a service line within the umbilical line and into the production line. The displacement fluids preferably comprise a hydrocarbon-based fluid having a low dosage hydrate inhibitor (LDHI).

Method for managing hydrates in subsea production line

A method for treating a fluid having hydrate-forming constituents is provided. In one or more embodiments, the method includes including a mixture () comprising glycol and one or more kinetic inhibitors to a fluid () that includes one or more hydrate-forming constituents and water to provide a treated fluid comprising the glycol, one or more kinetic inhibitors, one or more hydrate-forming constituents and water. The treated fluid () is then separated at conditions sufficient to provide an oil phase stream and an aqueous phase stream, wherein the aqueous phase stream includes one or more kinetic inhibitors, glycol and water.

Embodiments of the invention relate to a process for providing a pumpable hydrate slurry in a hydrocarbon pipeline fluid mixture having a water-cut greater than about 50 volume percent. In one or more embodiments the process comprises treating the fluid mixture with an anti-agglomerant and adding water to the fluid mixture in an amount sufficient to lower the gas-water ratio sufficiently to achieve a pumpable hydrate slurry. A method for inhibiting the formation of gas hydrates in a petroleum fluid having hydrate-forming constituents is claimed. More specifically, the method can be used to treat a petroleum fluid, such as natural gas conveyed in a pipe, to inhibit the formation of a hydrate flow restriction in the pipe. The preferred hydrate inhibitors used for practicing the method comprise substantially water soluble homopolymers and copolymers of isopropylmethacrylamide derivatives which have a bimodal molecular weight distribution.

Method for inhibiting hydrate formation

A method for inhibiting the formation of clathrate hydrates in a fluid having hydrate forming constituents is claimed. More specifically, the method can be used in treating a petroleum fluid stream such as natural gas conveyed in a pipe to inhibit the formation of a hydrate restriction in the pipe. The hydrate inhibitors used for practicing the method comprise substantially water soluble polymers having N-vinyl amide or N-allyl amide units. Specific examples of such copolymers include, N-vinyl-N-methylacetamide (VIMA) copolymerized with acryloylpyrrolidine (APYD) or acryloylpiperidine (APID), and more preferably, VIMA copolymerized with N-substituted methacrylamides, such as N-isopropylmethacrylamide (iPMAM) and methacryloylpyrrolidine (MAPYD) to produce inhibitors for practicing the claimed method.

This invention is directed toward a method for inhibiting the formation (nucleation, growth and agglomeration) of clathrate hydrates. The method comprises adding into a mixture of hydrate forming substituents and water, an effective amount of a hydrate anti-agglomerate selected from the group consisting of anionic, cationic, non-ionic and zwitterionic hydrate anti-agglomerate. The hydrate anti-agglomerant has a polar head group and a nonpolar tail group said nonpolar tail group not exceeding 11 carbon atoms in the longest carbon chain.

Gas hydrate anti-agglomerates

Novel maleimide copolymers have at least two monomeric units, a maleimide unit and a vinyl unit having a pendant group, the pendant group having two to twenty-one carbon atoms, at least one nitrogen atom and at least one oxygen atom. The copolymer has an average molecular weight between about 1,000 and about 6,000,000. Preferred maleimide copolymers include acrylamide/maleimide copolymers, N-vinyl amide/maleimide copolymers, vinyl lactam/maleimide copolymers, alkenyl cyclic imino ether/maleimide copolymers, and acryloylamide/maleimide copolymers. The substantially water soluble maleimide copolymers are useful for inhibiting the formation of clathrate hydrates in a fluid having hydrate-forming constituents by reducing the rate of nucleation, growth, and/or agglomeration of gas hydrate crystals in a petroleum fluid stream, thereby inhibiting the formation of a hydrate blockage in the pipe conveying the petroleum fluid stream. The inhibitor can be used conveniently at low concentrations, for example in the range of from about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of the water present in the oil or gas stream, to effectively treat a petroleum fluid having a water phase.

Method for inhibiting hydrate formation using maleimide copolymers

A method for inhibiting the formation and/or agglomeration of clathrate hydrates in a petroleum fluid stream containing water is disclosed. The disclosed method uses predetermined inhibitors having a guest group, a polymer backbone, and an anchor group positioned between the guest group and the polymer backbone. The inhibitor predetermination method comprises selection of the polymer backbone, anchor group and guest group using several types of criteria. The polymer backbone should produce a substantially water soluble polymer in combination with the anchor group and the guest group. The anchor group should be a hydrophilic moiety with between one and four hydrogen bonding atoms. The guest group should be either a hydrophobic or amphiphilic moiety with a carbon atom to heteroatom ratio greater than or equal to about two to one and an average van der Waals diameter between about 3.8 angstroms and about 8.6 angstroms. Some inhibitors selected using the disclosed predetermination method have produced a subcooling temperature of about 30.0.degree. F. Of 56 predetermined inhibitors, 18 have produced a subcooling temperature .gtoreq.24.0.degree. F., 22 have produced a subcooling temperature &lt;24.0.degree. F. but .gtoreq.15.0.degree. F., and 16 have produced a subcooling temperature &lt;15.0.degree. F. but &gt;10.0.degree. F.

Method for predetermining a polymer for inhibiting hydrate formation

This invention is directed toward a method for inhibiting the formation (nucleation, growth and agglomeration) of clathrate hydrates. The method comprises adding into a mixture comprising hydrate forming substituents and water, an effective amount of a hydrate inhibitor selected from the group consisting of anionic, cationic, non-ionic and zwitterionic hydrate inhibitors. The hydrate inhibitor has a polar head group and a nonpolar tail group not exceeding 12 carbon atoms in the longest carbon chain.
