A refractory panel for a heat exchanger is provided having a body including a first planar surface having a plurality of refractory openings formed therein. A sidewall is arranged about a periphery of at least one of the plurality of refractory openings. The sidewall extends outwardly from the first planar surface and is configured to extend through an adjacent component into an inlet of a heat exchanger coil.

A plate fin for a heat exchanger is provided including a base plate having a plurality of holes formed therein. The plate fin also includes a plurality of generally annular collars. Each collar is positioned substantially coaxially within one of the plurality of holes. The plurality of first collars is substantially less than the plurality of holes such that a portion of the plurality of holes does not have a collar arranged therein.

A coupling to connect a primary heat exchanger to a condensing heat exchanger of a furnace includes a coupling box extending between a primary heat exchanger and a condensing heat exchanger. The coupling box defines a flow path for flue gas between a primary heat exchanger outlet and a condensing heat exchanger inlet. A tube sheet is located at a distance from the tube sheet in the coupling box. The liner and the tube sheet define an insulating liner space therebetween reducing condensation on the liner.

A latch assembly for securing a furnace door to a furnace casing includes a latch for placement on an inside of the furnace door; a knob for placement on a front surface of the furnace door; a latch plate for placement between the latch and the knob; and a threaded screw for threadably coupling the knob to the latch. The latch plate supports the weight of the furnace door in a closed position and reduces a pinch force used for rotating the knob.

A condensate collector box includes a furnace mounting plate having a first edge portion, a second edge portion that extends from the first edge portion, at least one vent drain channel that extends along one of the first and second edge portions, and a heat exchanger condensate collection area. The condensate collector box also includes an inducer fan mounting member having a first surface and opposing second surface arranged upon the furnace mounting plate to form a condensate collection zone. The inducer fan mounting member includes at least one inducer fan drain passage that is fluidly connected to the at least one vent drain channel.

A condensate collector system includes a condensate collector box having at least one condensate outlet port, and a condensate trap fluidly connected to the at least one condensate outlet port. The condensate trap is configured and disposed to be selectively positioned in multiple drain orientations relative to the condensate collector box to accommodate multiple installation configurations of the multi-poise gas furnace.

A compact gas combustion furnace includes a substantially rectangular casing having an interior defined by a plurality of compartments. A draft inducer is mounted above the heat exchanger compartment to allow a multipass heat exchanger to be used while allowing the furnace to be fitted within a mobile home closet. A transition box couples the horizontally disposed inlet of the inducer and the vertically disposed outlet side of the heat exchangers. In a preferable arrangement, the furnace includes a burner assembly utilizing a plurality of burners, each having an arcuate shape in relation to a corresponding plurality of heat exchangers, and thereby occupying a minimum of space without loss of efficiency.

Mobile home furnace

A multi-poise furnace that is capable of operating in either a vertical or horizontal orientation and having a primary heat exchanger coupled to a condensing heat exchanger, apparatus for collecting and draining condensate leaving the condensing heat exchanger. The collecting apparatus includes a rectangular-shaped collector box connected to an outlet means of the condensing heat exchanger whereby condensate leaving the condensing heat exchanger flows to the lower part of the collector box, and a first drain situated at one corner of the collector box and a second drain situated at another corner of the collector box that is diagonally positioned in relation to the one corner such that one drain is always located in the lower part of the collector box regardless of the furnace orientation, a sheath having at least one drainage slot located around a pressure tap to prevent condensate from blocking the pressure tap, and a plurality of drain diverters for directing condensate originating in the condensing heat exchangers to the center of the collector box.

Condensate handlers for multi-poise furnace

A secondary condensing heat exchanger for use in a multi-poised furnace that includes multiple single pass heat transfer stages. Each stage includes a housing having an entrance at one end and a pair of outlets at the other end. The walls of the housing are arranged to conduct condensate formed in the housing through one or both outlets, depending on the orientation of the furnace. Lateral flow restrictors are mounted in the housing to direct flue gas products entering the housing back and forth across the housing.

There is disclosed a furnace having an air flow path for heated air and combustion products that passes through a condensing heat exchanger. Condensate forming in regions of negative and positive pressure is separately conducted to a unitary condensate trap of minimal vertical height incorporating therein separate traps for handling the high and low pressure gaseous environments. The condensate is drained through a common outlet port into the atmosphere or into a drain pipe.

A pair of sealing skirts join the inducer to the collector box of a condenser induction furnace, and accommodate offset in positions of the inducer inlet opening and the collector box outlet port. The two mating skirts are congruent and of generally triangular shape. A ridge or lip of one fits a groove on the other to form an airtight gasketless seal.

In a furnace of the type having a blower shelf with a blower attached to one surface thereof and a heat exchanger unit located proximate a second surface thereof, and the heat exchanger unit being reversibly attachable to the blower shelf, the improvement comprising: a retaining structure unitary with the back panel of the heat exchanger; and a structure which mates with the retaining structure and is unitary with the blower shelf. The retaining structure and mating structure function jointly to retain the back panel of the heat exchanger unit perpendicular to and proximate the blower shelf.

A coupling box for a condensing furnace having primary and secondary heat exchangers places the discharge ports of the primary heat exchanger in fluid communication with the inlet ports of the condensing heat exchanger. A baffle in the coupling box directs the flow of flue gas evenly therein to maintain temperature equilibrium so that water vapor does not condense in the coupling box.

In a multi-poise furnace having multiple parallel heat transfer stages, each stage having superimposed flow passages lying in a common plane. The last passage in each stage containing laterally-disposed indentations in opposed side walls for increasing the heat transfer surface area, and the walls of the last passage being further configured to conduct any condensate formed in the heat exchanger out of the exit region of the exchanger, regardless of the furnace orientation.
