An electromagnetic device is provided. It includes a plurality of input magnetic field generating devices, which will induce magnetic fields in output current generating devices. In one construction, the electromagnetic device can be operably coupled to a work input device wherein the electromagnetic device can be used as a generator set in combination with the energy input device. The input and output magnetic devices are arranged in radial arrays about a work input shaft. The output magnetic devices each include a core and a respective coil with the cores each having a longitudinal axis generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the shaft. The input devices and the output devices are mounted in respective carriers with the output device carrier being movable relative to the input device carrier.

A process for producing lithium hypochlorite which admixes an aqueous hypochlorous acid solution, having a concentration of 35 percent or greater by weight of HOCl, with an aqueous slurry of lithium hydroxide at a temperature in the range of from about 0.degree. to about 20.degree. to produce a solution of substantially pure lithium hypochlorite. The lithium hypochlorite solutions produced can be dried directly or concentrated by cooling. The solid lithium hypochlorite produced is a highly pure source of available chlorine.

Process for the production of lithium hypochloride

A process for producing lithium hypochlorite comprises admixing an aqueous hypochlorous acid solution having a concentration of 35 percent of greater by weight of HOCl with an aqueous slurry of lithium hydroxide at a temperature in the range of from about 0.degree. to about 20.degree. C. to produce a solution of lithium hypochlorite. The solution is concentrated by evaporation at temperatures in the range of from about 30.degree. to about 60.degree. C. and at subatmospheric pressures to form a paste of lithium hypochlorite. After separating the paste into a cake of lithium hypochlorite and a mother liquor, a potassium compound is admixed with the mother liquor. The process produces a highly pure solid lithium hypochlorite product having a concentration of at least 80 percent available chlorine.

Doped co-precipitates of magnetite (Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4) and ACO.sub.3, wherein A is barium, are prepared by a simplified process. This process involves reacting together, in an aqueous medium containing dopant ions, a ferric compound, a ferrous compound, a barium compound and an alkali metal carbonate.

Process for preparing selected, doped magnetite/carbonate co-precipitates

A process for the electrolytic production of a chloride-free mixture consisting essentially of sodium and potassium nitrates is disclosed. In this process, an anolyte brine comprised of a mixture of sodium and potassium chlorides dissolved therein is electrolyzed in a membrane type electrolysis type cell to produce a mixed alkali metal hydroxide catholyte solution. The catholyte is reacted with nitric acid to form a mixed potassium-sodium nitrate solution. By properly adjusting the ratio of potassium chloride to sodium chloride concentration in the anolyte brine, a final nitrate product containing about from about 40% to about 80% NaNO.sub.3 and from about 60% to about 20% KNO.sub.3 by weight can be produced. The resulting product, after drying is suitable for use in many solar panel heat transfer applications.

An improved process is described for the electrodeposition of both a low overvoltage metal and a sacrificial metal onto an electrically conductive substrate. The sacrificial metal is later removed by leaching the electrodeposited substrate with alkali metal hydroxide. The improvement comprises adding a sacrificial metal to the electroplating solution after electrodeposition is initiated. The amount of electric current supplied to the electroplating solution during electrodeposition may be increased or decreased over time intervals to increase the surface area and the electrochemical activity of the electroplated substrate.

Process for the preparation of low overvoltage electrodes

An improved process is described for the electrodeposition of both a low overvoltage metal and a sacrificial metal onto an electrically conductive substrate. The sacrificial metal is later removed by leaching the electroplated substrate with sodium hydroxide. The improvement comprises adding a sacrificial metal to the electroplating solution after electrodeposition is initiated. The amount of electric current supplied to the electroplating solution during electrodeposition may be increased or decreased to increase the surface area and the electrochemical activity of the electroplated substrate.
