Blended, release materials containing crosslinked silicones, crosslinked fluorosilicones, and nonfunctional fluorosilicones are described. Articles including release liners and adhesive articles are also described, as are methods of making such blended release materials and articles incorporating them.

Blended release materials

Molded optical articles and methods of making them are disclosed herein. Optical articles comprise a photopolymerizable composition disposed on a major surface of a substrate. The photopolymerizable composition comprises: a silicon-containing resin comprising silicon-bonded hydrogen and aliphatic unsaturation, and a platinum catalyst providing from about 0.5 to about 30 parts per million of platinum. The major surface imparts a positive or negative lens to the photopolymerizable composition. Optical articles also include those that have been photopolymerized using actinic radiation having a wavelength of 700 nm or less.

Molded optical articles and methods of making same

Flame retardant tackifiers are represented by the formula ' wherein R represents a hydrocarbyl group having 20 carbons and three consecutive fused six-membered rings; and each Rindependently represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Curable compositions contain a curable binder precursor and at least one of the flame resistant tackifiers. Pressure-sensitive adhesives comprises an elastomer and at least one flame retardant tackifier compound represented by the formula &#x2033; wherein R represents a hydrocarbyl group having 20 carbon atoms and three consecutive fused six-membered rings and each Rindependently represents an alkyl or aryl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. 

Flame retardant, pressure-sensitive adhesive, and curable composition

A light emitting device that includes a light emitting diode and a multilayer encapsulant is disclosed. The multilayer encapsulant includes a first encapsulant in contact with the light emitting diode and a photopolymerizable composition in contact with the first encapsulant. The first encapsulant may be a silicone gel, silicone gum, silicone fluid, organosiloxane, polysiloxane, polyimide, polyphosphazene, sol-gel composition, or another photopolymerizable composition. The photopolymerizable compositions include a silicon-containing resin and a metal-containing catalyst, the silicon-containing resin comprising silicon-bonded hydrogen and aliphatic unsaturation. Actinic radiation having a wavelength of 700 nm or less can be applied to initiate hydrosilylation within the silicon-containing resins.

Light emitting device with multilayer silicon-containing encapsulant

Described herein are release layers formed via solventless extrusion. The release layers include a polyolefin and an alkyl dimethicone. The release layers exhibit tailorable release properties from pressure-sensitive adhesives. The release layers are simple to make and require no post-treatment in order to impart the observed release properties. The release layers are adaptable to multilayer extrusion, blown film formation, and cast film formation techniques.

Release films via solventless extrusion processes

A curable composition comprises (a) at least one inorganic or organic compound comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least one hydrosilyl moiety; (b) at least one inorganic or organic compound comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least one hydroxysilyl moiety, the hydroxysilyl moiety optionally being generated in situ by hydrolysis of at least one hydrosilyl moiety; and (c) at least one photoactivatable composition that, upon exposure to radiation, generates at least one base selected from amidines, guanidines, phosphazenes, proazaphosphatranes, and combinations thereof; with the proviso that, when component (a) is an organic polymer, then component (b) is different from component (a) and is not generated in situ by hydrolysis of component (a).

Curable-on-demand composition comprising dual reactive silane functionality

A curable composition comprises (a) at least one polydiorganosiloxane, fluorinated polydiorganosiloxane, or combination thereof comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least two hydroxysilyl moieties; (b) at least one polydiorganosiloxane, fluorinated polydiorganosiloxane, or combination thereof comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least two hydrosilyl moieties; and (c) at least one photoactivatable composition that, upon exposure to radiation, generates at least one base selected from amidines, guanidines, phosphazenes, proazaphosphatranes, and combinations thereof; wherein at least one of the components (a) and (b) has an average reactive silane functionality of at least three.

Curable-on-demand polysiloxane coating composition

A curable composition comprises (a) at least one inorganic or organic compound comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least one hydrosilyl moiety; (b) at least one inorganic or organic compound comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least one hydroxysilyl moiety, the hydroxysilyl moiety optionally being generated in situ by hydrolysis of at least one hydrosilyl moiety; and (c) at least one base selected from amidines, guanidines, phosphazenes, proazaphosphatranes, and combinations thereof; with the proviso that, when component (a) is an organic polymer, then component (b) is different from component (a) and is not generated in situ by hydrolysis of component (a).

A curable composition comprises (a) at least one polydiorganosiloxane, fluorinated polydiorganosiloxane, or combination thereof comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least two hydroxysilyl moieties; (b) at least one polydiorganosiloxane, fluorinated polydiorganosiloxane, or combination thereof comprising reactive silane functionality comprising at least two hydrosilyl moieties; and (c) at least one base selected from amidines, guanidines, phosphazenes, proazaphosphatranes, and combinations thereof; wherein at least one of the components (a) and (b) has an average reactive silane functionality of at least three.

Curable polysiloxane coating composition

Disclosed herein is a method of making a light emitting device having an LED die and a molded encapsulant made by polymerizing at least two polymerizable compositions. The method includes: (a) providing an LED package having an LED die disposed in a reflecting cup, the reflecting cup filled with a first polymerizable composition such that the LED die is encapsulated; (b) providing a mold having a cavity filled with a second polymerizable composition; (c) contacting the first and second polymerizable compositions; (d) polymerizing the first and second polymerizable compositions to form first and second polymerized compositions, respectively, wherein the first and second polymerized compositions are bonded together; and (e) optionally separating the mold from the second polymerized composition. Light emitting devices prepared according to the method are also described.

Method of making a light emitting device having a molded encapsulant

Disclosed herein is a light emitting device including an LED die and a photopolymerizable composition comprising a silicon-containing resin comprising silicon-bonded hydrogen and aliphatic unsaturation, and from about 0.5 to about 30 parts per million of a platinum catalyst. The photopolymerizable composition may be free of catalyst inhibitor. Also disclosed herein are methods of making the light emitting device.

Light emitting device having silicon-containing composition and method of making same

Provided is a laminated body comprising a substrate to be ground and a support, where the substrate may be ground to a very small (thin) thickness and can then be separated from the support without damaging the substrate. One embodiment is a laminated body comprising a substrate to be ground, a curable silicone adhesive layer in contact with the substrate to be ground, a photothermal conversion layer comprising a light absorbing agent and a heat decomposable resin, and a light transmitting support. After grinding the substrate surface which is opposite that in contact with the adhesive layer, the laminated body is irradiated through the light transmitting layer and the photothermal conversion layer decomposes to separate the substrate and the light transmitting support.

A method of making an LED light emitting device is disclosed. The method includes forming a multilayer encapsulant in contact with an LED by contacting the LED with a first encapsulant that is a silicone gel, silicone gum, silicone fluid, organosiloxane, polysiloxane, polyimide, polyphosphazene, sol-gel composition, or a first photopolymerizable composition, and then contacting the first encapsulant with a second photopolymerizable composition. Each photopolymerizable composition includes a silicon-containing resin and a metal-containing catalyst, the silicon-containing resin comprising silicon-bonded hydrogen and aliphatic unsaturation. Actinic radiation having a wavelength of 700 nm or less is applied to initiate hydrosilylation within the silicon-containing resins.
