A electrically-conductive broad good having an electrically-conductive nonwoven veil comprising with a plurality of metal-coated fibers looped randomly throughout the nonwoven veil and a binder material binding the plurality of metal-coated fibers together into the nonwoven veil and a first metal coating covering the conductive nonwoven veil wherein the first metal coating increases the number of electrical interconnections between the plurality of metal-coated carbon fibers within the conductive nonwoven veil and increases the conductivity and ampacity of the plurality of metal-coated fibers.

Electrically-conductive broad good

A light-weight, highly-conductive material useful for repairing a lightning protection system in an aircraft. The material includes a nonwoven carbon fiber veil and a metal coating covering the veil. The veil includes a plurality of carbon fibers looped randomly throughout the veil and a binder material that binds the plurality of fibers together. The metal coating covers a portion of a surface of the plurality of bound fibers of the veil, and preferably the entire surface of both the plurality of bound fibers and the binder material, forming a highly-conductive network that follows the shape of the plurality of fibers in the veil. The areal weight is in a range from at least 5 grams per square meter (gsm), up to 12 gsm, and the sheet resistance is in a range from at least 0.5 ohms per square (Ω/□), up to 2Ω/□.

Light-weight, highly-conductive repair material

A broad good, comprising a plurality of fibers looped randomly throughout the broad good, a binder material binding the plurality of fibers together, the plurality of bound fibers forming a dimensionally stable nonwoven veil, a first metal coating covering a surface of the plurality of bound fibers of the veil, and a second metal coating covering the surface of the first metal coating, wherein the first and second metal coatings form a highly conductive metal screen that follows the shape of the dimensionally stable nonwoven veil.

Conductive broad good providing lightning strike protection

A heated composite tool, useful for forming, debulking, and/or curing prepreg materials, including a composite build structure having a shape of a composite part that is to be produced, configured to receive and support prepreg materials during lay-up, and including a heating structure physically coupled to the composite build structure, and comprising at least one heating element, including a carbon nanotube structured layer defining a current path having first and second ends and first and second electrical terminals electrically coupled to the first and second ends and a first isolation ply disposed between the composite build structure and the at least one heating element, the first isolation ply forming an electrical insulating gap between the at least one heating element and the composite build structure, wherein the carbon nanotube structured layer is responsive to an electromotive force applied across the first and second electrical terminals to heat the tool.

Heated composite tool and method for building and use

A carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet containing CNTs having a median length of at least 0.05 mm and an aspect ratio of at least 2,500; L arranged b a randomly oriented, uniformly distributed pattern, and having a basis weight of at least 1 gsm and a relative density of less than 1.0. The CNT sheet is manufactured by applying a CNT suspension in a continuous pool over a filter material to a depth sufficient to prevent puddling of the CNT suspension upon the surface of the &#x2022;filter material, and drawing the dispersing liquid through the filter material to provide a uniform CNT dispersion and form the CNT sheet. The CNT sheet is useful in making CNT composite laminates and structures having utility for electromagnetic wave absorption, lightning strike dissipation. EMI shielding, thermal interface pads, energy storage, and heat dissipation.

Carbon nanotube sheet structure and method for its making

A carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet containing CNTs, arranged is a randomly oriented, uniformly distributed pattern, and having a basis weight of at least 1 gsm and a relative density of less than 1.5. The CNT sheet is manufactured by applying a CNT suspension in a continuous pool over a filter material to a depth sufficient to prevent puddling of the CNT suspension upon the surface of the filter material, and drawing the dispersing liquid through the filter material to provide a uniform CNT dispersion and form the CNT sheet. The CNT sheet is useful in making CNT composite laminates and structures having utility for electro-thermal heating, electromagnetic wave absorption, lightning strike dissipation, EMI shielding, thermal interface pads, energy storage, and heat dissipation.

A carbon nanomaterial composite sheet and a method for making a carbon nanomaterial composite sheet may include a layer of a carbon nanomaterial structure being bonded to a carrier layer, the carrier layer being fabricated from a porous metalized nonwoven material.
