Embodiments of the invention provide an electric machine module including an electric machine. The electric machine includes a rotor and a stator assembly, and an output shaft having a longitudinal axis that is circumscribed by a portion of the rotor. The output shaft may comprise an output shaft channel and the rotor may include a rotor channel, and the rotor and the output shaft channels may be in fluid communication. The machine further includes a coolant jacket at least partially within a sleeve member that circumscribes at least a portion of the stator assembly, and at least one pump mounted generally concentrically with respect to the output shaft, that is in fluid communication with the coolant jacket. Some embodiments of the electric machine module include coupling to a fluid system that is configured and arranged to transport fluid, such as the coolant, throughout the fluid system.

Also, some embodiments provide an electric machine including stator end turns, housing at least partially enclosing the electric machine, and an end cap coolant jacket positioned substantially axially outward relative to at least one of the stator end turns.

The stator core can include at least two extended members that can radially extend from axial ends of the stator core. An annular member is coupled to the extended members to define a portion of a coolant jacket. The coolant jacket can be further defined between the annular member, the outer diameter of the stator assembly, and the extended members. The electric machine can be positioned within the housing so that the annular member is immediately adjacent to the inner surface.

A stator includes a body portion having an outer portion and an inner portion that defines an interior region, a plurality of stator teeth members extending from the inner portion into the interior region, and at least one continuous conductor wound around select ones of the plurality of stator teeth members to form at least one pole. Each of the plurality of stator teeth members including a number of wraps of the at least one continuous conductor. The at least one continuous conductor including a number of twists that is fewer than the number of wraps.

A method of winding a flexible core includes forming a flexible core member having a first end portion, a second end portion and a plurality of teeth each having a central axis with the plurality of teeth being arranged in a substantially linear array. The method also includes manipulating the flexible core member into an inverted core form having an outer portion and an inner portion with the plurality of teeth extending out from the outer portion away from the inner portion, positioning a winding member including an amount of wire adjacent one of the plurality of teeth, and rotating the flexible core member about the central axis of the one of the plurality of teeth.
