A tool for installation of a cable tie having a housing for supporting tensioning, cutting, actuating and restraining mechanisms. The actuating mechanism applies motivation support simultaneously to the tensioning and cutting mechanisms. The restraining mechanism, however, prevents actuation of the cutting mechanism until the desired predetermined tension is achieved. A ball detent assembly is at least included in the restraining mechanism for engaging the cutting mechanism sleeve with a circumferential force.

A cable mount for securing a bundle of wires against a mounting surface including a spaced apart pair of legs having retention barbs, and a corresponding harness fixture, which allows for easy application of a single, centered cable tie by an automatic cable tie application tool.

A tension limiting strap tool for tightening a cable tie around a bundle of wires or the like. The strap tool includes a pair of pivotally connected handles, one of the handles having a cam surface that cooperates with a flexible barb member to hold an end of the cable tie strap as the handles are pivoted towards each other. One of the handles also includes at least one abutment surface that pushes away the cable tie head from the held strap end, and thus tightens the cable tie around the bundle.

A wire insertion tool for inserting individual wires into an insulation displacement contact of an electrical connector includes a wire insertion head; a palm handle; a wire insertion punch disposed on a forward end of the palm handle; means for mounting the palm handle to the wire insertion head such that the punch can be reciprocated towards and away from the wire insertion head by grasping the palm handle and the finger grip of the wire insertion head; a connector positioning means for positioning a connector opposite the wire insertion punch; and bench mounting means formed along a distal edge of the wire insertion head for engaging a structural feature on a removable bench mounting block secured to a mounting surface to releasably secure the wire insertion tool to the mounting surface for use as a bench mounted tool. A palm button can be removably mounted to the palm handle when the tool is bench mounted to provide a greater handle surface area.

A cable tray for use with a tool for applying a connector to a multiconductor flat cable includes a planar grooved cable positioning surface that aligns individual conductors of a flat cable and a cable transfer rod removably and rotatably mounted perpendicular to the length of the grooves and spaced from a cable positioned on the grooves of the positioning surface an amount sufficient to engage the surface of a cable inserted therebetween and upon rotation of the rod accurately advance the terminal edge of the cable to a desired termination position and securely hold the cable in position until a connector is terminated thereto.
