An ophthalmic lens disinfection apparatus, including a container and a mating cap, she apparatus having an improved seal and vent means for venting gas generated within the apparatus. The vent means is an integral part of the disinfection apparatus which allows venting of gas when internal pressure increases, while maintaining a seal which is substantially gas and liquid-impermeable at other times. The seal is defined by the interference mating of a flexible periphery on a container with a rigid mating rim on a cap. The apparatus is particularly useful in the disinfection of contact lenses with hydrogen peroxide in which the excess peroxide is decomposed into water and oxygen.

Apparatus for disinfecting contact lenses having improved vent means

A contact lens holding device for use in a disinfecting system having a single-molded piece, the piece having a dividing portion having first and second surfaces, a first basket portion integrally attached to and capable of folding into closable engagement with the first surface of the dividing portion to form a first lens enclosure, and a second basket portion integrally attached to and capable of folding into closable engagement with the second surface of the dividing portion to form a second lens enclosure, the dividing portion, first basket portion and second basket portion lying on a substantially single plane when in unfolded configuration.

A method of disinfecting a hydrogen peroxide stable contact lens is provided wherein a contact lens is contacted with a hydrogen peroxide solution in a container and a hydrogen peroxide decomposition means is provided in said container, which means is adapted to permit the contact lens to have a cumulative (% peroxide) (min) exposure from the time said decomposition means contacts said peroxide containing solution, time zero, over a period of no greater than 12 hours of at least 20% peroxide.multidot.minute. An apparatus capable of carrying out such method is also provided herein. The hydrogen peroxide decomposition means may be, for example, a prepoisoned catalyst, a catalyst partially enclosed in a tube, a dual catalyst control system or a distributed catalyst control system.

Peroxide disinfection method and devices therefor

A method of disinfecting a hydrogen peroxide stable material by contacting said material with a hydrogen peroxide containing solution and a hydrogen peroxide decomposition means adapted to permit said material to have a cumulative (% peroxide).multidot.(min) exposure from the time said decomposition means contacts said hydrogen peroxide containing solution over a period not exceeding 12 hours of at least 20% (peroxide).multidot.(min). Also, disclosed are devices and components thereof whereby said method can be achieved.
