Systems and methods for producing one or more olefins using waste plastics and used lubricating oil are disclosed. Mixed waste plastic is processed in a pyrolysis unit to produce plastic derived oil. The plastic derived oil is subsequently blended with used lubricating oil to form a mixture. The mixture is then separated into (1) a light-end stream comprising C1 to C8 hydrocarbons and (2) a heavy hydrocarbon feed stream. The heavy hydrocarbon feed stream is then processed to produce a steam cracking feedstock stream. The light end-stream and/or the steam cracking feedstock stream are then flowed into a cracking unit to produce one or more olefins.

Treating and steam cracking a combination of plastic-derived oil and used lubricating oils to produce high-value chemicals

The present invention relates to a process for the production of butenes and butadienes from waste plastics feedstocks comprising the steps in this order of: (a) providing a hydrocarbon stream A obtained by treatment of a waste plastics feedstock; (b) providing a hydrocarbon stream B; (c) supplying a feed C comprising a fraction of the hydrocarbon stream A and a fraction of the hydrocarbon stream B to a thermal cracker furnace comprising cracking coil(s); (d) performing a thermal cracking operation in the presence of steam to obtain a cracked hydrocarbon stream D; (e) supplying the cracked hydrocarbon stream D to one or more separation units; (f) performing a separation operation to obtain different streams of chemical products comprising ethylene, propylene, isobutene, 1-butene, 2-butene, 1,2-butadiene, 1,3-butadiene, benzene, styrene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes; wherein in step (d): ⋅ the coil outlet temperature is ≥800 and ≤870° C., preferably ≥805 and ≤835° C.; and ⋅ the weight ratio of steam to feed C is >0.3 and <0.8, preferably >0.3 and <0.5. Such process allows for optimisation of the quantity of waste plastic material that finds its way back into products that are produced as outcome of the process. The higher that quantity is, i.e. the higher the quantity of chemical building blocks that are present in the waste plastic material that are converted to the produced products, the better the sustainability footprint of the process is. The process allows for circular utilisation of plastics.

Process for the preparation of chemical products from waste plastic feedstocks

Process for the preparation of polycarbonates from waste plastic feedstocks

Integrated process configuration involving the steps of pyrolysis, hydrocracking, hydrodealkylation and steam cracking

Disclosed are methods of reduction of chlorine in pyrolysis products derived from a mixed plastics stream. Methods may comprise: (a) causing pyrolysis of a plastic feedstock to produce a first stream of C1-C4 gaseous hydrocarbons and light gas olefins and a second stream comprising the remaining pyrolysis components. The second stream and hydrogen gas may be fed into a hydrocracker to produce a third stream of gaseous C1-C4 hydrocarbon gases and a fourth stream comprising the remaining hydrocracker components. The fourth stream may be fed to either (i) a steam cracker to produce a fifth stream comprising C1-C4 gaseous hydrocarbons and light gas olefins, a sixth stream comprising C6-C8 hydrocarbons and a seventh stream comprising hydrocarbons heavier than C8; or (ii) a fluidized catalytic cracker to produce an eighth stream comprising C1-C4 gases and light gas olefins and a ninth stream comprising hydrocarbons that are C5 or greater.
