A system includes a vehicle event recorder and a modem. The vehicle event recorder is configured to receive a sensor data signal from a sensor that is mounted on a vehicle trailer. The modem is configured to demodulate the sensor data signal to create a modulated sensor data signal. The demodulated sensor data signal is received using a first line. The first line is coupled via a harness to sensor on a vehicle trailer.

A method and apparatus for controlling the output power level of an amplifier that is highly insensitive to temperature variations. The method intentionally shuts down the amplifier for a very short period of time in order to reveal the detector diode's thermally induced error voltage. This voltage is then stored for a subsequent subtraction from the total detected voltage after the amplifier is turned back on. The detector diode is therefore compensated against itself to obtain a higher level of detection accuracy.

A method and apparatus incorporating a single self-compensating diode power detector in the feedback loop of a pulsed amplifier for exploiting the discontinuous nature of the pulsed amplifier to extract any thermally induced error voltage by a single power detector between the transmission bursts and use it to correct the power detector voltage during the bursts to obtain a true power indicative voltage, independent of temperature variation.

A controlled-output power amplifier (50) is provided having a wide dynamic range in a plurality of output power levels. The controlled-output amplifier (50) includes an amplifier (12) for receiving an input signal (14) and for providing an output signal (16) therefrom. A power detector (24) is employed for rectifying a sample signal and providing a DC output signal (26) therefrom. An active variable coupling network (52) which preferably includes a varactor (62) is connected between the output of the amplifier (12) and the power detector (24). The variable coupling network (52) receives the amplifier output signal (16) and further receives an isolation voltage (54) and adjusts the amount of isolation between the amplifier (12) and the power detector (24). For high output signals, the isolation voltage (54) causes a high isolation thereby causing less power to be transferred to the power detector (24). The isolation voltage (54), similarly, decreases the isolation for low output signals such that more power is transferred to the power detector (24). The DC output signal (26) is then compared with a fixed voltage reference (30). The voltage comparison provides an error voltage (34) which is used to adjust the gain of amplifier (12) so that the output signal (16) of the amplifier (12) is set to a desired magnitude.

Power detection technique for automatic amplifier power control

A controlled power amplifier system (211) wherein a sample (225) of the output power level of an on/off switched power amplifier (215) is compared with a reference signal (227) to produce a power level control signal (275) that controls the output power level of the power amplifier (215). When the power amplifier (215) is switched off, the control signal (275) is maintained at the level it had just prior to the transition from an on to an off state. The switching is performed offset from the ends of each switched power amplifier pulse envelope to allow the pulse amplitude to be leveled in the center of the pulse and yet allow the pulse rise and fall times of the pulse envelope to follow the power amplifier input.
