Closely spaced electrical contacts are increasingly difficult to place in the manufacture of connectors and a strip molded onto stamped contact elements provide locating and alignment of the contact elements to make the same easily located in molded housing or tooling for molding. Wire support surfaces molded as part of the strip insure placement of conductors for connection with the contact elements.

Overmolded electrical contact for the manufacture of connectors

A socket connector having an insulating body containing a plurality of contact elements in which each of the contact elements is stamped from sheet metal and has a connecting end and a pin contacting end. The pin contacting end of each contact element has a main body portion with a flat pin guiding and contacting surface and a pair of pin contact areas spaced from and facing the pin guiding and contacting surface and defined on a pair of spring arms that are cantilevered in opposite directions from a central bridge. The bridge is connected along one edge to a connecting link extending between the main body portion and the bridge and having a greater area of connection to the main body portion than to the bridge.

Socket connector

A tap connector for tapping branch conductors to conductors of a bus cable has an insulating base, a plurality of tap contacts retained in the base and an insulating cover. Each contact is a flat metal plate having three parallel, closely spaced legs extending from one edge. The two outer legs lie in a common plane and the center leg lies in a plane parallel to the common plane and is offset therefrom creating conductor connection slots between the center leg and each of the outer legs for a conductor of a bus cable and a tapping branch conductor at an angle to the bus conductor.
