An electrical system includes an input node electrically connectable to a power supply. The system includes a plurality of voltage suppressors, with at least one of the voltage suppressors electrically connected to the input node. A voltage selection switch is electrically connected to at least one of the plurality of voltage suppressors. A controller in communication with the switch may selectively operate the switch based on a nominal operating voltage at the input node.

Selectable input transient voltage suppressor

A low side overvoltage protection circuit configuration comprising: a first switching device in operable communication with and disposed between a ground and a protected ground; a load in operable communication with and disposed between a voltage source and the protected ground; a control circuit configured to control the first switching device in operable communication with a transient protected voltage source. The first switching device is configured to provide electrical circuit isolation of the protected ground from the ground. Also, a method for providing a low side circuit overvoltage protection comprising: detecting an overvoltage transient on a voltage source; isolating a protected ground from a circuit ground with a first switching device; and controlling the first switching device with a control circuit in operable communication with transient protected voltage source. The control circuit is responsive to an overvoltage transient of the voltage source.

Overvoltage transient protection for low side circuits

A high side reverse voltage and overvoltage protection circuit configuration comprising: a first switching device in operable communication with a transient protected voltage source; a second switching device in operable communication and in series with the first switching device and in operable communication with an unprotected voltage source; a control circuit configured to control the first switching device and the second switching device in operable communication with another transient protected voltage source. The first switching device is configured to provide reverse voltage protection for the transient protected voltage source; and the second switching device is configured to provide overvoltage protection for the transient protected voltage source.

High side reverse and overvoltage transient protection

This invention discloses an apparatus and method of determining the temperature of the core of an inductive coil sensor so that the effective inductance of the coil sensor can be temperature compensated to thereby provide an accurate measure of the level of fuel in a tank. The method comprises energizing the sensor with a prescribed voltage, de-energizing the sensor, measuring the resultant voltage across the sensor, and determining the core temperature from the measured resultant voltage across the sensor.

Temperature compensation of an inductive sensor

A circuit having reverse battery protection includes a combination of an electrical load and an N-channel MOSFET inversely coupled in series with the load. The gate of the MOSFET is coupled to the high potential side of the electrical load. The series combination is powered by a DC voltage source. Positive polarity voltages enhance the MOSFET and provide for low loss conduction thus completing the series circuit whereas negative polarity voltages bias the MOSFET off thus providing a DC block by way of the intrinsic diode of the inversely coupled MOSFET. Gate to source voltage may be limited or controlled to prevent damage due to punch through effects at high positive voltages and to ensure turn-off of the MOSFET at negative polarity voltages.
