Dilute, aqueous solutions of lower organic peracids are rapidly prepared by reacting the anhydride of the organic acid corresponding to the peracid with concentrated hydrogen peroxide to form an aqueous peracid mixture. Before equilibrium is attained, the mixture is diluted with water and hydrogen peroxide to produce an equilibrium mixture of organic acid, peracid, hydrogen peroxide, and water. The process can be carried out in 60 minutes or less and can be run either as a batch or as a continuous process.

Method for the production of lower organic peracids

A process for replacing an aromatic carbon-thallium bond with a carbon-oxygen bond. The process is particularly suitable for producing specific aromatic isomers by thallating an aromatic compound and replacing the thallium with a carboxylate group which can be further hydrolyzed if desired to form an aromatic hydroxyl compound.

Aryl carboxylate process

A process was developed using hydrogen peroxide for the oxidation of thallium (I) to thallium (III) in a solvent at a pH of 9.0 or less. Any convenient solvent may be used, such as water, acetic acid, methanol, or a mixture of solvents. Optionally, a buffered solvent may be used.

Process for oxidizing thallium (I) to thallium (III)

A process for converting a thallium (I) compound to a thallium (III) compound comprising contacting an alkaline solution of the thallium (I) compound with gaseous oxygen and in the presence of a peroxygen compound.
