The bone fixation tangs with self-balancing extension compensate for the internal cavity shape of the intramedullary canal, thus avoiding the related issues of over-extension and under-extension of tangs. Over-extension, or pushing the tangs too deeply in the inner wall of the bone, is unnecessarily traumatic to the patient and may weaken the bone. Under-extension, or stopping extension before the tangs have locked into the interior surface of the bone, results in reduced mechanical strength, thus compromising the ability of the nail to provide support to the bone. The bone fixation tangs with self-balancing extension address this issue by allowing the tangs to balance their extension.

The suture passer includes a body, from which two mechanisms protrude: a hollow needle through which a suture is guided, the suture exiting at the surgical site; and a sliding hollow tube with a distal opening, with a pincer/clamp/jaws held within the sliding hollow tube. The two primary parts of the suture passer are the hollow needle and the retrieval member.

A cleaning fixture for cleaning a medical device includes a shaft receiving portion configured to receive a shaft and an end effector assembly of the medical device. The shaft receiving portion includes a nozzle disposed towards a distal end of the shaft receiving portion such that the nozzle is positioned adjacent the end effector assembly of the medical device upon receipt of the shaft and end effector assembly of the medical device within the shaft receiving portion. A handle receiving portion is configured to receive the housing and handle of the medical device. The handle receiving portion is releasably securable with the shaft receiving portion to enclose the medical device therein. The handle receiving portion includes a lever activation assembly positioned adjacent the handle and operable to selectively actuate the handle to manipulate the end effector assembly.

A cleaning fixture for cleaning a medical device comprising a shaft receiving portion configured to receive a shaft and end effector assembly of the medical device, the shaft receiving portion including at least one nozzle disposed towards a distal end of the shaft receiving portion such that the at least one nozzle is positioned adjacent the end effector assembly of the medical device upon receipt of the shaft and end effector assembly of the medical device within the shaft receiving portion, and a handle receiving portion configured to receive the housing and handle of the medical device, the handle receiving portion releasably securable with the shaft receiving portion to enclose the medical device therein, the handle receiving portion including at least one lever activation assembly positioned adjacent the handle and operable to selectively actuate the handle to manipulate the end effector assembly.

The Intramedullary Nail System including Tang-deployment Screw with Male Interface includes a nail for insertion into the intramedullary canal of the femur and a lag screw for insertion through the nail, into the femoral head of the femur. The nail is held within the intramedullary canal of the femur, affixed internally by the lag screw and tangs, without the use of screws that penetrate the surface of the bone, and without requiring significant x-ray exposure. For nails of small diameter, a coupler, with two female ends, allows the diameter of the male/female interface between the driver and the actuator, which in turn extends the tangs, to be increased. This increase is possible because the lower section of the nail, where the talons are stored prior to extension, is of a larger diameter than the remainder of the nail.

The disclosed device solves the problem of fixation of a fractured humerus, or other long bone, by allowing a surgeon to first fix the proximal end of the implant and set the fracture, followed by fixation of the distal end without the use of screws.

The Intramedullary Nail System with Tang Fixation includes a nail for insertion into the intramedullary canal of the femur and a lag screw for insertion through the nail, into the femoral head of the femur. The nail is affixed to the inside of the femur using only extendable tangs that extend into the bone. Similarly, the lag screw is secured to the inside of the femur and femoral head using only threads and extendable tangs. Thus, the nail is held within the intramedullary canal of the femur, affixed internally by the lag screw and tangs, without the use of screws that penetrate the surface of the bone, and without requiring significant x-ray exposure.
