A process for reducing odor in polychloroprene is provided that comprises treatment of a stabilized polychloroprene latex with a compound selected from the group consisting of ozone, hydrogen peroxide, alkali metal salts of halogen oxo acids, alkali metal salts of peroxy acids and mixtures thereof. Polychloroprene latex and solid compositions of low odor prepared by the process are also disclosed.

Process for production of polychloroprene having low odor

Crystalline polychloroprene compositions comprise mercaptan-modified or xanthogen disulfide-modified 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene homopolymers having gel contents of 5-80 percent by weight. The polymers are prepared by free radical emulsion polymerization at a temperature of 5.degree.-20.degree. C. to a conversion of 70-95 percent in the presence of 2.5.times.10.sup.-4 -5.5.times.10.sup.-4 moles of mercaptan or xanthogen disulfide modifier per mole of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene.

Polychloroprene composition

Polychloroprene latex adhesive compositions which comprise a) mercaptan-modified or xanthogen disulfide-modified 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene homopolymers having gel contents of 5-70 percent by weight, b) 1 to 75 parts by weight of rosin per 100 parts by weight of a), and c) sufficient water to provide a solids content of 25-65 weight percent based on the weight of component a) exhibit excellent heat resistance and green bond strength.

Polychloroprene adhesive latex composition

An adhesive composition resistant to elevated temperature and particularly suitable for bonding to a substrate a composite structure thermoformable at a high temperature is an aqueous dispersion containing as its main components a copolymer of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene with 2,3-dichloro-1,3-butadiene made at a temperature of at most 35.degree. C., preferably at most 25.degree. C., a rosin ester, and zinc oxide or magnesium oxide. The solids content of the adhesive composition is about 40-65 weight percent, preferably 50-60 weight percent. The composition may also contain, and usually does contain, further additives such as, for example, stabilizers, antioxidants, surfactants, and gum rosin esters.

High-performance water-based chloroprene polymer adhesive composition

Blends of asphalt and 0.1 to 5 weight percent of a chloroprene polymer are disclosed. The chloroprene polymers can contain up to 12 weight percent 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 a vinyl monomer or mixtures thereof. The chloroprene polymers are mercaptan-modified or dialkyl- or dialkoxy xanthogen disulfide-modified chloroprene polymers having a gel content of 10 to 50 weight percent and preferably from 20 to 40 weight percent.

Blends of asphalt emulsions or melts and aqueous elastomeric latices are prepared using a screw type extruder adapted to provide sufficient back pressure within the screw flights of the extruder to express the water from the blend through a vent provided in the extruder.

Extrusion isolation of blends of rubber and asphalt

Aromatic polyamides which include units based on disulfonated aromatic diamines, the sulfonate groups being present as sulfonic acid groups or alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, transition metal, aluminum, ammonium or lower alkyl quaternary ammonium salts thereof, are provided. Permselective membranes fabricated from such polyamides are also provided. The membranes are suitable for reverse osmosis, especially for purification of water.
