A process for forming microspheres is disclosed. The process includes contacting a solvent with a modified cellulose to form a solution; contacting the modified cellulose solution with at least one bioactive agent to form a discontinuous phase liquid; contacting the discontinuous phase liquid with a continuous phase liquid to form an emulsion; and contacting the emulsion with a third phase liquid to extract the solvent from the emulsion, thereby forming a plurality of modified cellulose microspheres.

A drug-delivery cannula assembly includes a cannula housing adapted for receiving at least one obturator shaft of an obturator assembly therethrough, one or more cannulae, and a supply line coupled to the cannula housing. The cannula housing is adapted for receiving one or more obturator shafts of an obturator assembly therethrough. The one or more cannulae define a longitudinal axis and a passageway aligned with the longitudinal axis. The one or more cannulae each include a proximal end coupled to the cannula housing. The cannula housing is configured to fluidly-couple the one or more cannulae to a source of a drug delivery supply for supplying drugs via the supply line to the one or more cannulae.

Drug-delivery cannula assembly

A drug-delivery device includes a body configured for attachment to a handle of an ablation device, a shaft portion defining a passageway therein, and a delivery lumen to provide for drug delivery to tissue. The body includes a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a contoured portion disposed therebetween. The contoured portion is configured for engagement with a contoured portion of the handle of the ablation device. The shaft portion includes a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end of the shaft engages with an opening defined in the distal end of the body. The passageway of the shaft portion is configured to receive the delivery lumen slideably moveably therein. The delivery lumen includes a proximal portion and a distal portion. The drug-delivery device also includes a knob member coupled to the proximal portion of the delivery lumen.

Implantable or insertable medical devices

A microsphere and methods for forming the same are disclosed. The microsphere includes modified cellulose and at least one first microsphere disposed within a multi-encapsulating microsphere, the at least one first microsphere comprising at least one first hydrogel precursor; and at least one second microsphere disposed within the multi-encapsulating microsphere, the at least one second microsphere comprising at least one second hydrogel precursor cross-linkable with the at least one first hydrogel precursor upon degradation of the at least one first microsphere and the at least one second microsphere.

The present invention is directed to methods, processes, and systems for coating portions of a workpiece as well as to workpieces that have themselves been coated in accord with the invention. Under these methods and processes of the invention, a means to repel may be positioned on a mandrel prior to applying a coating to the workpiece. The means to repel may prevent the coating of a target surface of the workpiece.

Methods for coating workpieces

The present invention provides for a method for spray application of a coating material onto a medical device by spraying coating material from a micronozzle fabricated from a plurality of sheets that are etched with holes or openings. The openings are aligned to form fluid channels and the sheets are fused together in a planar fashion to define a micronozzle. In another embodiment, the invention provides for a method for spray application of a coating material onto a medical device using micronozzles fabricated in batches by a simplified manufacturing process. In other embodiments, the invention provides for a method for spray application of a coating material onto a medical device by spraying coating material from a micronozzle that includes a swirl or gas-assist atomizer.
