The present disclosure relates to saturated or primed abrasive article constructions containing an anti-loading composition which significantly reduces loading, is coatable, is durable, and is relatively inexpensive to manufacture. In particular, the use of the anti-loading compositions of the present disclosure as a size coat at least reduces if not eliminates the need for a supersize coat, while offering comparable if not superior performance and durability. The abrasive article further includes an anti-loading size layer comprising a size coat binder and wax at least partially disposed on the abrasive layer.

The present disclosure relates to an abrasive article construction containing an anti-loading composition which significantly reduces loading, is coatable, is durable, and is relatively inexpensive to manufacture. In particular, the use of the anti-loading compositions of the present disclosure as a size coat at least reduces if not eliminates the need for a supersize coat, while offering comparable if not superior performance and durability. In one aspect, the present disclosure provides an abrasive article including a backing with a first major surface and an opposing second major surface, an abrasive layer bonded to at least a portion of the first major surface, with the abrasive layer comprising abrasive particles retained in a make coat. The abrasive article further includes an anti-loading size layer comprising a size coat binder and wax at least partially disposed on the abrasive layer.

The present invention is an optically clear, curable adhesive including a polyvinylbutyral, a polyurethane (meth)acrylate, a (meth)acrylate monomer, and a photoinitiator. The polyvinylbutyral has a dynamic viscosity of between about 9 and about 13 mPa&#xb7;s and a polyvinyl alcohol weight percent of less than about 18%. The polyurethane (meth)acrylate includes the reaction product of a diol, at least one diisocyanate, and a hydroxyfunctional (meth)acrylate or an isocyanatofunctional (meth)acrylate. When the optically clear, curable adhesive is placed between two transparent substrates and made into a laminate, the laminate has a haze of less than about 6%, a transmission of greater than about 88%, and an optical clarity of greater than about 98% when cured. The optically clear, curable adhesive also has a peel adhesion of at least about 100 g/cm based on ASTM 3330 when cured.

High performance photocurable optically clear adhesive

Optical constructions are disclosed. A disclosed optical construction includes a reflective polarizer layer, and an optical film that is disposed on the reflective polarizer layer. The optical film has an optical haze that is not less than about 50%. Substantial portions of each two neighboring major surfaces in the optical construction are in physical contact with each other. The optical construction has an axial luminance gain that is not less than about 1.2.

Optical construction and display system incorporating same

The present invention is an optically clear, curable adhesive including a polyvinylbutyral, a polyurethane (meth)acrylate, and a photoinitiator. The polyvinylbutyral has a dynamic viscosity of between about 9 and about 13 mPa&#xb7;s and a polyvinyl alcohol weight percent of less than about 18%. The polyurethane (meth)acrylate includes the reaction product of a diol, at least one diisocyanate, and a hydroxyfunctional (meth)acrylate or an isocyanatofunctional (meth)acrylate. When the optically clear, curable adhesive is placed between two transparent substrates and made into a laminate, the laminate has a haze of less than about 6%, a transmission of greater than about 88% and an optical clarity of greater than about 98% when cured. The optically clear, curable adhesive also has a peel adhesion of at least about 100 g/cm based on ASTM 3330 when cured.

Optically clear curable adhesive films that are heat conformable prior to setting include a reactive composition. The curable films are flexible and free-standing, and have a complex viscosity of greater than 100,000 poise (10,000 Pascal seconds) at 25&#xb0; C. and less than 100 poise (10 Pascal seconds) at 85&#xb0; C., prior to setting. The set film has an adhesive shear strength of greater than 100 Newtons per square centimeter (N/cm) to a glass substrate when measured according to the Shear Adhesion Test Method. The reactive composition includes an ethylenically unsaturated polyester-containing oligomeric composition that is the reaction product of a saturated, amorphous co-polyester polyol and a compound with a terminal polyol-reactive group and a terminal ethylenically unsaturated group, a (meth)acrylate functional material, and at least one initiator.

Heat conformable curable adhesive films

Waterborne suspensions include surface treated silica particles, a water dispersable binder resin, at least one surfactant, and an aqueous solvent. The surface treated silica particles have a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic silane surface treatment agents, where the ratio of hydrophilic silane surface treatment agent to hydrophobic silane surface treatment agent is greater than 1. The waterborne suspensions can be coated and dried to form nanostructured tie layers, especially tie layers to silicone or (meth)acrylate layers.

Processing tapes for use in preparing optical articles include a thermally stable tape backing and a low tack adhesive layer at least partially coated on tape backing. The low tack adhesive layer includes a crosslinked, polyester-containing (meth)acrylate-based polymer that is essentially free of volatile components, is unchanged after heat aging of 150 C for 1 hour under a pressure of 4.31 kiloPascals, and is able to removably adhere to the anti-reflective, nanostructured surface coating of an optical construction.

There is provided an article comprising at least a first surface having a fluorine-containing polymeric binder resin layer and a plurality of microspheres partially embedded in a first major surface of the binder resin layer and adhered thereto; wherein the fluorine-containing polymer is derived in part from at least one partially fluorinated, or non-fluorinated, monomer; and wherein the article exhibits a stain resistance to yellow mustard at elevated temperature and humidity as measured by the change in b* of less than 50. There are also provided such articles wherein the fluorine-containing polymer is derived in part from at least one partially fluorinated, or non-fluorinated, monomer; and wherein the fluorine content along the polymeric backbone of the fluorine-containing polymer is from about 27% to 72% by weight. There are also provided such articles wherein the article is a thermoformable article exhibiting chemical resistance according to ASTM D5402-06.

Stain resistant microsphere articles

An optical article includes an optical element, a low refractive index layer disposed on the optical element having an effective refractive index of 1.3 or less and a polymeric protective layer disposed on the low refractive index layer. The low refractive index layer includes a binder, a plurality of metal oxide particles dispersed in the binder, and a plurality of interconnected voids. The polymeric protective layer does not increase an effective refractive index of the optical article by greater than 10%.

Heat de-bondable adhesive articles include a heat-shrinkable optical substrate with optically clear adhesive disposed on the two major surfaces of the heat-shrinkable substrate. Optical articles can be prepared by disposing the heat de-bondable adhesive articles between two optical substrates. Other optical articles can be prepared by disposing an optically clear adhesive layer and a heat-shrinkable optical substrate on an optical substrate.

Optical articles can be prepared by disposing the heat-shrinkable substrate and the optically clear adhesive between two optical substrates. The optically clear adhesive covers a majority of the surface area of the optical substrates, and the heat-shrinkable substrate is located near the edge of the optical substrates.
