A high torque AC motor of the repulsion type that includes at least four stator poles and an armature with chordally oriented windings. The armature windings are cyclically shorted and opened in groups at appropriate angular positions of the armature by a non-contact switch circuit carried on the armature.

High torque repulsion motor

An electric motor operated by AC current, that includes a stator and a rotor supported for rotation about an axis relative to the stator. The stator is provided with field windings angularly distributed about the rotor axis and capable of producing a magnetic field vector in the space of the rotor. Circuitry delivers AC current to the windings in a manner that produces an AC magnetic field vector that moves around the axis of the rotor. The rotor has a construction, such as an axially extending conductive loop, that changes its reluctance in the AC magnetic field depending on its orientation to the AC magnetic field vector whereby the rotor is caused to rotate in synchronization with the movement of the AC magnetic field vector.

Controlled reluctance AC induction motor

A brushless repulsion motor which includes a stator and rotor rotatably mounted on the stator is provided. The stator and rotor are contained within a first housing, the stator having at least one pair of poles, a field winding on the stator for producing a field on the stator, and a plurality of coils on the rotor adapted to electromagnetically interact with the field of the stator winding. Switches are located on the rotor shaft outside the first housing to selectively short successive ones of the coils when the coils are in a preferred angular position relative to the stator poles. Thus, the stator field is effective to induce a current in the rotor and produce a resultant relative rotation between the rotor and the stator which can be controlled by non-contact signaling means which activate the switches.

Brushless repulsion motor

A speed control system for a brushless repulsion motor of the type including a series of armature mounted switches for shorting circumferentially spaced armature coils, said system comprising: a digital counter on the armature for creating a repetitive succession of switch activating signals in a selected sequence at a given rate determined by the counting rate of the counter; means for activating the switches with the signals in the sequence and at the rate to control the speed of the armature; and, means for directing a reference pulse signal at a reference frequency to the counter to set the counting rate of the counter.

Speed control system for repulsion motor

An armature mounted armature speed control system for a brushless repulsion motor of the type including a series of coil switches on the armature for shorting a succession of armature coils and detectors on the armature for operating each of the switches when the armature coil shorted by a switch is at a selected rotational position, the system comprising: a ring counter with sequentially energized output lines for receiving signals in sequence at a rate controlled by the reference frequency of count pules at the input of the counter, means for operating the switches in sequence by the counter created signals to control the speed of the armature at a set point and a selector switch shiftable upon receipt of a shift signal between a first condition with the signals from said counter operating the coil switches and a second condition with the detectors operating the coil switches.

Speed control for brushless repulsion motor

A brushless repulsion motor in which the rotor carries electronic switch circuits for selectively shorting the rotor windings at appropriate times in its rotational cycle. A non-contact reference signal source on the stator enables the electronic circuitry to operate as desired. The disclosed motor arrangements are useful as substitutes for conventional brush-type repulsion motors, universal series motors, synchronous motors, servomotors and stepping motors.

Repulsion motor

A valve positioning system according to the present invention includes a force motor which responds to a command signal corresponding to a desired valve flow rate by energizing magnetic coils with a current to produce a flux force which moves the valve. Preferably two Hall effect sensors sense the actual position and provide a feedback signal to a control loop which compares the sensed position with the commanded position. The valve is positioned by adjusting the energizing current provided to the magnetic coils. The system optionally includes circuitry to compensate for the error in the actual position relative to the commanded position produced by changes in current in the magnetic coils.

Servo positioning system

Brushless dynamoelectric machines utilizing conventional DC armature construction. The winding of the armature is modified by providing a set of three leads to its coil ring circuit at points spaced angularly about 120.degree.. Electrical energy is carried in these leads instead of a commutator and brush set. In most versions of the machine, a shell rotates about the armature, while the armature is caused to remain stationary. The three lead lines are brought out parallel to the axis of rotation through a bearing supporting the shell.

Brushless motor

Apparatus and method for monitoring exercise activity and exercise responses of a user/patient. The monitoring apparatus and method forms the basis of a physical fitness system or a patient rehabilitation system for rehabilitating cardiac, orthopedic or other patients that require physiological monitoring during a therapy session. The system includes a patient station which in the case of cardiac rehabilitation includes an ECG monitor and a transmitting unit for transmitting ECG data and patient speech signals over a voice grade phone line. A base unit, located at a remote location, receives a composite analog signal containing the ECG data and voice signal and includes signal processing devices for separating the signal and for continuously storing the ECG data on a mass storage device for the entire therapy session. At the conclusion of the therapy session, selected portions of the stored ECG data can be transferred to a removable storage medium such as a floppy disk. The base station includes means for transmitting commands in the form of DTMF tones to the patient station to initiate the therapy session and/or to control the work load of an exercise device being used by the patient. Patients are connected to the patient transmitting unit by a fiber optic or RF link. The ECG data is transmitted in a 2170-2370 Hz. frequency band using frequency modulation on a carrier of substantially 2270 Hz. Notch and band pass filters remove the selected frequency band from the voice signal.

Exercise monitoring system capable of simultaneous transmission of voice
