A liquid pharmaceutical composition providing improved oral bioavailability is disclosed for compounds which are inhibitors of HIV protease. In particular, the composition comprises a solution in a pharmaceutically acceptable organic solvent of (a) the HIV protease inhibitor and, optionally, (b) a surfactant. The composition can optionally be encapsulated in either hard gelatin capsules or soft elastic capsules (SEC).

Pharmaceutical composition

Disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition for extended release of an erythromycin derivative in the gastrointestinal environment. The composition comprises an erythromycin derivative and a pharmaceutically acceptable polymer so that, when ingested orally, the composition induces statistically significantly lower C.sub.max in the plasma than an immediate release composition of the erythromycin derivative while maintaining bioavailability and minimum concentration substantially equivalent to that of the immediate release composition of the erythromycin derivative upon multiple dosing. The compositions of the invention have an improved taste profile and reduced gastrointestinal side effects as compared to those for the immediate release composition.

Pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting HIV protease

Compositions of a quinolone carboxylic acids useful for oral or parenteral administration to a human or veterinary patient are disclosed which comprise quinolone carboxylic acid--metal ion--acid complexes in combination with a physiologically acceptable carrier and having a pH of about 4 to about 10, as well as a method for their production and use in treatment. Such compositions are found to cause unexpectedly low levels of vein irritation upon intravenous administration.
