An improved process for producing refined oils free of contaminating waxes, resins, and lipids from botanical plant matter using an improved in-line winterization process is disclosed. The biomass is fed into an extraction vessel where the oils are extracted using a solvent, followed by a two-stage separation. Both the temperature and pressure of the solvent going into the separators are controlled for effective separation. Additional solvent is added to enhance the separation efficiency between the refined oil and the undesired fraction containing the contaminants. This process provides an alternative to current wax mitigation techniques, such as alcohol based solvent winterization.

A geothermal energy system with reverse thermodynamic flow scheme that employs a pump or a compressor in series with a ground heat rejection or a ground heat absorber. The pumped geothermal energy system evaporates and condenses the working fluid at substantially the same pressure in the ground loop. The working fluid could be carbon dioxide, Freon, water or any other suitable refrigerant. The compressive geothermal system condenses the working from a vapor to a liquid above, below, and substantially equal to critical pressure using carbon dioxide as the working fluid.

A method for separating a sample using high pressure flash chromatography is provided. The method comprises the steps of: i) providing a pressurized vessel containing an adsorption material; ii) pressurizing a compressible fluid, optionally containing a cosolvent, to create a mobile phase; iii) premixing the sample with the mobile phase or optionally placing the sample in the pressurized vessel; iv) eluting the mobile phase through the pressurized vessel, to obtain a separated sample; v) heating the mobile phase containing the separated sample after the mobile phase exits the pressurized vessel to remove the compressible fluid; and iv) collecting the separated sample. The pressurized vessel contains an adsorption material having a particle size of 10-100 microns, and the pressure of the adsorption vessel is held at 50-350 bar during elution. Also provided is an apparatus for carrying out the above method.

High pressure flash chromatography

A splitter for a pressurized primary flowstream of a mobile phase is provided. The splitter comprises a first splitting stage that divides the primary flowstream between a major split flowstream and a minor split flowstream by means of a first and a second restrictive flow element; a first dilution stage that combines a dilution flow source with the minor split flowstream to create a diluted minor flowstream; a second splitting stage that divides the diluted minor flowstream between a secondary major diluted flowstream and a secondary minor diluted flowstream by means of a third restrictive element in the secondary minor diluted flow stream; and a second dilution stage wherein a conditioning flow source conditions the secondary minor diluted flow stream after the third restrictive element prior to outlet of the secondary minor diluted flowstream from the splitter.

An integrated, self-contained microrefrigeration apparatus, in a dimension small enough to fit inside small appliances, such as electronic cases and portable equipment is described. The microrefrigerator employs a working fluid that circulates between evaporator, compressor, condenser and turbine-expander components in a closed loop. Two configurations are claimed: one with the compressor and turbine operating on independent shafts, and the other with the turbine and compressor both operating on the motor shaft.

The mixing apparatus comprises a pressure vessel having a chamber and a first opening that communicates with the chamber. The mixing apparatus also comprises a first cap which fits over the first opening to engage the vessel and close the first opening. The mixing apparatus comprises a shaft self-sealing spring-loaded seal which seals the shaft to the first cap as pressure increases in the vessel. The shaft is rotatable in the shaft self-sealing spring-loaded seal.
