A system and method for adjusting estimated number of customers affected by an electrical power distribution network incident. Incident reports indicating a number of affected customers and an incident definition for incidents occurring over an accumulation time are accumulated, where each incident report. For each incident report, a signature is determined based on characterizing respective incidents and includes respective characteristics of the incidents associated with each incident report. A subject incident report is received subsequent to the accumulation time. A signature is determined for the subject incident report. Similar incident reports that have signatures similar to the subject incident are identified. A composite estimated number of affected customers for the subject incident is determined based on the associated numbers of affected customers for each similar incident report. An initial estimate of customers affected by the subject incident is adjusted based on the composite estimated number of affected customers.

Proactive power outage impact adjustments via machine learning

A service ticket control can close an open service ticket for a field service visit to resolve a power outage experienced at a given customer premises. The open service ticket can be closed in response to usage data from a given smart meter at the customer premises indicating that the customer premises is consuming power above a predetermined threshold level. The service ticket control closes the open service ticket prior to a service crew assigned the service ticket arriving at the given customer premises.

A respective power restore report indicating power is restored at the respective reporting power meter is received within a recovery time duration after receiving each respective power down report. Based on receiving the respective power restore report within the recovery time duration, an occurrence of an Automatic Lateral Switch operation which includes operating contacts providing power to the lateral power feed by the contacts opening and remaining reclosed is determined. Based on determining the Automatic Lateral Switch operation, an indication of the Automatic Lateral Switch operation is stored into a database system.

Wireless communications between smart meters at the edge of an electrical power distribution network and a proactive outage alerts processing engine at an outage alerts notification information processing system facilitate management of communications of power outage alerts messages to customer communication devices. Power outage alerts messages can be communicated to customers using email messaging, text messaging, and voice mail messaging.
