A transcatheter prosthetic heart valve includes a stent frame and a leaflet material. The stent frame includes a top portion and a bottom portion. The leaflet material includes a lower portion attached to the stent frame and an upper portion that includes leaflets capable of moving between an open configuration and a closed configuration. At least a portion of the leaflet material weaves through the stent frame. The transcatheter prosthetic heart valve also includes one or more reinforcement components coupled to the stent frame and/or to the leaflet material to enhance performance of the transcatheter heart valve.

Methods to improve the durability of polymeric heart valves

Methods for determining likelihood of thrombosis based on patient-specific anatomic, valve, and flow parameters are disclosed herein. Such methods are used to select a transcatheter aortic valve that decreases likelihood of thrombosis after TAVR procedures. The methods correlate a number of fluid flow and geometric parameters such as stasis volume, neo-sinus volume, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity, heart rate, the circulation, ejection time, velocity of the main jet, wall shear stress, total kinetic energy in the neo sinus volume, width of the neo-sinus, height or depth of the neo-sinus, the angle between the velocity direction and the stent of the transcatheter valve, the distance from the tip of the leaflet perpendicular to the leaflet edge and intersecting the sinotubular junction, and the cross-sectional area of the neo-sinus taken from a longitudinal or axial perspective. Such parameters are used to derive empirical or semi-empirical mathematical models to determine the likelihood of thrombosis.

Systems and methods for predicting thrombosis for heart valve replacements

A prosthetic heart valve includes a first upper frame portion and a stent frame connected to the first upper frame portion via at least two stent frame extensions. The stent frame includes a base and at least two stent posts extending upwardly from the base towards the first upper frame portion. The first upper frame portion, the base, and the at least two stent posts each has an inner surface and an outer surface. The prosthetic heart valve also includes at least one sheet of leaflet material configured to encircle the stent frame and weave through the stent frame between the first upper frame portion and the base.

Systems and methods are described herein for predictive heart valve simulation. The systems and methods described herein can include segmenting anatomical region of a heart of a patient from image data characterizing the heart of the patient. Anatomical model data that can include three-dimensional shapes of the anatomical regions of the heart can be generated based on the image data. The anatomical model data can be used to generate anatomical model data. The analytical model data can include a three-dimensional mesh of the anatomical regions of the heart. A deformed analytical model that can be indicative of a deformed position of the anatomical regions of the heart and a deformed position of the surgical object can be generated based on the analytical model data.

Systems and methods for predictive heart valve simulation

A computer implemented method for prescribing optimized medical interventions includes retrieving a patient's updated electronic medical record (EMR) and mapping the diagnosis of the patient to a medical treatment database to select a plurality of likely medical intervention choices based on a score exceeding a defined threshold score. The method includes determining a rank order of the selected plurality of medical intervention choices by comparing simulation outcomes for each choice executed by the medical predictive algorithm, on respective choices among each of the selected likely medical interventions. The method also includes receiving by the patient's physician or patient's electronic medical record database, a rank order of recommended medical intervention choices including possible options and associated metrics based on an accepted level of simulated outcome.

Systems and methods for optimizing medical interventions using predictive models

A transcatheter prosthetic heart valve includes a stent frame and at least one sheet of leaflet material formed in to a tube, which includes a lower portion disposed on an exterior of the stent frame and an upper edge portion disposed within the stent frame. The upper edge portion includes at least a portion configured to wrap around a first portion of the top edge of the stent frame and fold towards an exterior of the stent frame. The upper edge portion also includes at least another portion configured to weave through the stent frame and fold towards the interior of the stent frame.

In certain aspects of the present disclosure, a computer-implemented method includes receiving a 3D imaging. The method includes generating 3D models based on the 3D imaging. The method includes generating, responsive to a pre-determined set of surgical steps, a finite number of 4D time deformation scenes for each pre-determined surgical step associated with the 3D models. The method includes displaying selectively interactive simulations based on the finite number of 4D time deformation scenes. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

The devices and systems are medical fluid treatment therapies. The device and systems are configured and capable of operating based on small volumes of fluids. The devices and systems include a pump configured for small volume of a fluid. The pump may include a first conduit configured for inflow of the fluid; a second conduit configured for outflow of the fluid; a fluid chamber configured to move the fluid through the pump; a diaphragm configured to force the fluid through the fluid chamber by indirectly exerting force on the fluid chamber; and a connector configured to removably attach the pump to a motor.

Also provided herein are methods for forming the composite, and blood-contracting devices made from the composite, such as heart valves and vascular grafts.

Glycosaminoglycan and synthetic polymer material for blood-contacting applications

A device for use in combination with a fluid flow having a biologic component and subject to an adverse response to shear stress includes a surface in contact with the flow of the fluid. The surface has a longitudinal direction extending from a leading end toward a trailing end and aligned with a direction of the flow. The surface is susceptible to inducing boundary layer formation within the flow sufficient for a resulting shear stress to induce the response. The surface includes a surface feature sufficient to induce boundary layer tripping in the flow to retard growth of boundary layer formation along the length.

Devices and systems for medical fluid treatment

A novel system and method for fluid management for accurate continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CWH) in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The fluid management or CWH system is automated and configured for operation as a stand alone unit and can be easily integrated with an ECMO system. The fluid management system is capable of producing either perfect or negative fluid balance between ultrafiltrate removal and replacement fluid delivery. The fluid management system can achieve electrolyte replacement over a range of flow rates needed to care for patients ranging from neonates to adults. Finally, the novel fluid management system preserves patient safety, maintains sterility during operation, is easy to operate, and is compact enough to fit near a patient's bed.

Fluid management system for accurate continuous hemofiltration in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

A device for use in the total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) in order to optimize its hemodynamics. Although the current procedure of choice for single ventricle heart repairs, the TCPC has reduced the post-operative mortality to the level of simpler types of congenital heart disease repairs, Fontan patients are still subjected to serious long-term complications. The TCPC procedure, which restores the vital separation between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, also leads to an increased workload for the remaining single ventricle, as it is now responsible for pumping the blood through both the systemic and pulmonary circulation. The present device reduces this workload by altering the surgically created design of the TCPC. Improved fluid mechanics and reduced energy dissipation at the connection site translates into less work for the single ventricle and improved transport of deoxygenated blood to the lungs, which may in turn contribute to improved post-operative results and quality of life.
