A method for depositing a metal layer on a component includes applying an electrically conductive coating composition comprising a resin and metal particles on a coating region of the component and partially curing the resin to a gel state to form an electrically conductive coating. The method also includes applying additional metal particles to the partially cured resin in the gel state and depositing, via an electrodeposition process, a metal layer on the electrically conductive coating.

Nickel-cobalt materials, methods of forming a nickel-cobalt material, and methods of thermally stabilizing a nickel-cobalt material are provided. A nickel-cobalt material may include a metal matrix composite with amorphous regions and crystalline regions substantially encompassed by a nanocrystalline grain structure with a grain size distribution of about 50 nanometers to about 800 nanometers, and the nanocrystalline grain structure may include widespread intragranular twinning. The metal matrix composite may have a chemical makeup that includes nickel, cobalt, and a dopant such as phosphorus and/or boron. A nickel-cobalt material may be heat treated within a first temperature zone below the onset temperature for grain growth and then within a second temperature zone above the onset temperature for grain growth in the material. Chemical composition and heat treatment may yield a thermally stabilized nickel-cobalt material.

A method for depositing a metal layer on a component is provided. The method includes applying an electrically conductive coating composition including a resin and metal particles on a coating region of the component; at least partially curing the resin forming an electrically conductive coating; and depositing, via an electrodeposition process, a metal layer on the electrically conductive coating.

A nickel-cobalt material and component includes a thermally stabilized nickel-cobalt alloy. The nickel-cobalt alloy disclosed herein includes nanocrystalline grain structures, pinning, such as Zener pinning, and intragranular twinning. The nickel-cobalt alloy disclosed herein exhibits multiple properties including an improved fracture toughness, an increased thermal stability, and an improved ultimate tensile strength.

A nickel-cobalt material and method of forming includes forming a doped nickel-cobalt precursor material. The method also includes heat treating the doped nickel-cobalt precursor material, wherein the heat treating includes at least heating within a temperature zone below the onset temperature for grain growth in the doped nickel-cobalt precursor material.

The present invention relates to a new method for the production of electrochemical cells, in particular individual cells for fuel cells and stacks, in which the individual components of a membrane electrode assembly are compressed and bonded by use of ultrasonic waves and the absence of any further additional heating. The method according to the invention allows faster cycles during the lamination of the membrane electrode assemblies.

A polymer-electrolyte membrane is presented. The polymer-electrolyte membrane comprises an acid-functional polymer, and an additive incorporated in at least a portion of the membrane. The additive comprises a fluorinated cycloaliphatic additive, a hydrophobic cycloaliphatic additive, or combinations thereof, wherein the additive has a boiling point greater than about 120&#xb0; C. An electrochemical fuel cell including the polymer-electrolyte membrane, and a related method, are also presented.
