The invention relates to methods and kits for diagnosing and/or treating appendicitis in a subject, comprising obtaining a biological sample rom said subject; detecting RNA expression levels of at least three or more biomarkers in the biological sample and comparing the expression levels of said at least three or more biomarkers to a control sample wherein an increase or decrease in the level of expression of said at least three or more biomarkers as compared to the control sample is indicative of appendicitis.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a combination of a functional assessment of renal function together with biomarker results in order to improve assessment of patient at risk of, or having, an acute kidney injury. A loop diuretic such as furosemide inhibits luminal active chloride transport throughout the thick ascending limb of Henle, thereby preventing sodium reabsorption and resulting in natriuresis and increased urine flow.
