A data interface with overvoltage protection circuitry includes a bus interface and power rectification stage configured to provide supply and return voltages for the data interface and overvoltage protection circuitry, a first power level overvoltage protection circuit, a second power level overvoltage protection circuit, a DALI endpoint power output port, a power supply for a DALI endpoint device drawing current from the power output port, a receiver configured to receive signals on the DALI bus, and, a transmitter configured to send signals on the DALI bus.

Data interface with overvoltage protection for two-way digital control bus system

A power handling system of a digitally addressable lighting interface (DALI) system controls switches connected with a bus of the DALI system that powers lower power light sources. A power supply circuit receives energy conducted on the bus to the lower power light sources and conducts at least part of the energy to a capacitor. Electric energy is stored in the capacitor until the capacitor stores at least a designated threshold of input voltage of a controller. The capacitor powers the controller to close one or more switches using at least some of the stored electric energy.

Power handling system and method

Single channel digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) systems can include a dedicated external power supply that operates in a constant voltage/constant current mode to meet requirements of the DALI bus. A lighting controller is powered from the DALI bus. In one embodiment of the inventive subject matter, a lighting system is provided that includes two or more control (e.g., DALI) buses and a multichannel power supply that can be used for powering a controller of the system with constant voltage and to power separate control buses with separate and constant current. In order to protect the controller and buses from overloads caused by miswiring or other erroneous conditions, a protection circuit assembly is provided.

Protection circuit assembly and method

A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) ballast driver includes first, second and neutral AC voltage terminals, a full wave rectifier between the first AC voltage terminal and the neutral AC input terminal, and a separate branch between the second AC voltage terminal and the neutral AC input terminal. A resonator circuit includes at least two inductors and provides its output voltage to a CFL lamp. The driver includes a first state detector circuit to monitor the first AC voltage terminal, and a second state detector circuit to monitor the second AC voltage terminal. The first and second state detector circuits activate respective first and second switches. The first switch shunts one inductor of the resonator circuit, and the second switch shunts another inductor of the resonator circuit. The driver can be housed in a CFL having a capper, a three-way lamp base adjacent to the capper and an arc tube.

Fluorescent lamps, along with their methods of manufacture and use, are provided. The fluorescent lamp can include a discharge tube extending from a first end to a second end; a resistive transparent coating (e.g., a tin oxide thin film layer, such as a fluor-doped tin oxide thin film layer) on the outer surface of the discharge tube; and a pair of electric terminals positioned on the discharge tube such that a first terminal is on the first end and a second terminal is on the second end.
