A method and system are provided for creating and utilizing subscriber specific memory locations or storage folders for storing incoming voicemail messages in a telecommunications system voicemail system. A subscriber to voicemail services creates subscriber or user-specific memory locations or storage folders to which callers may direct a voice message. When a caller calls the subscriber's directory number and is forwarded to the subscriber's voicemail service, the caller is given the option to save the message in one of a number of previous created voice message folders. For example, the caller may receive a prompt like 'Press 1 to leave a message for Jane.' If messages are inadvertently left in the wrong voice message folder, the user having authorized access to that folder may move the message to the appropriate folder. If desired, personal identification numbers (PIN) may be assigned to each voice message folder to control access to messages saved therein.

Voicemail system with subscriber specific storage folders

A method and system are provided for creating and utilizing caller-specific memory locations or folders within a single voicemail box of a telecommunications network-based voicemail system. A subscriber to voicemail services sets up a plurality of caller-specific memory locations or folders within her voicemail box for directing incoming messages to particular folders. Preferably, the folders are specific to particular callers based on the caller directory number or caller ID. The subscriber assigns a given folder with directory numbers of callers known to be associated with that folder. When a call comes in to the voicemail system with a directory number associated with a given folder, the voice message from that call is directed to and saved in the associated folder. If desired, personal identification numbers (PIN) may be assigned to each folder to control access to messages saved therein.

A method and system are provided for allowing a subscriber of voicemail services to selectively deactivate a voicemail system and to designate a reviewed voicemail message as 'unheard.' A subscriber to voicemail services provided by a telecommunications network-based system contacts the voicemail system and deactivates voicemail services temporarily or indefinitely. Subsequent callers forwarded to the subscriber's voicemail box at the voicemail system receive an announcement that the called party is not presently accepting voicemail messages. Alternatively, no announcement is provided to the calling party, and the calling party simply receives a busy signal or an unanswered call indication. Once the subscriber is ready to begin receiving messages in her voicemail box, the subscriber may reactivate the voicemail system. If the subscriber does accept voicemail messages, and the subscriber receives and reviews voicemail messages, the subscriber may designate any reviewed message as 'unheard' so that an audible or visual indication of the presence of voicemail message is reactivated to subsequently alert the subscriber or other user of the presence of voicemail messages in the subscriber's voicemail box.

Selective deactivation of a voicemail system

A method and system are provided for storing received voicemail messages to alternate storage locations. A subscriber to voicemail services provides a voicemail system with an address or a number of addresses to which the subscriber may forward voicemail messages for extended storage. The subscriber may provide an electronic mail address, facsimile device number, a forwarding telephone directory number, or the address of a wireless electronic device, such as a hand-held computer, personal digital assistant, or pager. After receiving and reviewing a voicemail message left for the subscriber at the voicemail system, the subscriber may select an alternate storage address to have the voicemail message forwarded to that address for extended storage and for subsequent review and use. The message may be converted from speech-to-text at the voicemail system prior to forwarding the message. If the message is converted to text format, the message may be sent to a forwarding facsimile device, or the message may be electronically mailed to an email address, Internet-based web page, or wireless electronic device. Alternatively, the message may be converted to a digital audio format and may be electronically mailed as an attachment to an electronic mail message to an address provided by the subscriber.

Storage of voicemail messages at an alternate storage location

A method and system are provided for allowing an electronic mail user to block receipt of undesirable electronic mail content. An email user contacts her email service provider via an Internet-based web page. The user may designates certain keywords or text strings and certain email addresses associated with email she considers undesirable. Subsequently, when email messages are sent to the user, those messages are intercepted by the user's email service provider at an email server. A database lookup is performed for the keywords, text strings or email addresses designated as undesirable by the user. The email service provider does not deliver email containing or from the designated undesirable keywords or text strings and certain email addresses. The user may designate a return message to be sent back to the sender of the undesirable email to alert the sender not to send future messages to the user containing the undesirable keywords or text. If desired, in an effort to cause the sender to abandon the user's email address as a target for unsolicited and undesirable email, the email service provider may send a return message to the sender that indicates that the user's email address is not operable and that the email to the user is undeliverable.

Blocking electronic mail content

The temporary mounting system permits easy installation and removal of the screen and permits installation and removal without noticeable harm to the cubicle.
