An image processing apparatus and an image processing method, the image processing apparatus including: an image input unit which receives an image; and an image processing unit which generates reference data on the basis of a plurality of learning images classified into a plurality of first classes according to a noise characteristic and a plurality of second classes according to an image characteristic, and which performs scaling for the received image on the basis of the generated reference data.

A display including: an LCD panel to display an inputted video signal from the outside; a middle level controller to increase a middle brightness signal level of the inputted video signal; a contrast controller to control a contrast of a video signal outputted from the middle level controller; a brightness mean calculating part to calculate a brightness mean of a video signal from one of the middle level controller and the contrast controller; and a controller controlling the contrast controller to control the contrast according to a result calculated by the brightness mean calculating part and a control method thereof. Thus, the contrast is controlled according to the brightness mean of one of the video signal having the controlled contrast and the video signal having the increased middle brightness signal level, which enables displaying an optimal image.

Display and control method thereof

In a method of removing a noise signal from a video signal and enhancing edge sharpness to improve the video signal definition, a different weight is assigned depending on a characteristic of input pixels. To this end, at least two pixel blocks including the input and at least two adjacent pixels. A pixel difference between the pixels in the each of the pixel blocks is calculated and one of the calculated pixel differences is selected. The input pixel is assigned with a weight corresponding to the selected pixel difference. Accordingly, the definition of the video signal is improved.

Video signal processing apparatus and method to enhance image sharpness and remove noise

An edge correction apparatus and a method of performing an effective edge correction of an image signal in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions include generating a two-dimensional (2D) second differential signal from the image signal, generating first differential signals in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions from the image signal, selecting one of the first differential signals, combining the selected one and the 2D second differential signal, and correcting the edge of the image signal using the combined signal. Therefore, it is possible to effectively correct edges of the image signal in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions.

Edge correction method and apparatus

In the optical recording medium including a substrate having pregrooves, and a metal recording thin film, a buffering layer and a reflecting layer which are stacked in sequence on the substrate, the buffering layer is formed of one or more dyes having a refractive index (n) of 1.4 or more and an absorption coefficient (k) of 1.6 or less at a wavelength of 650 nm, and a refractive index (n) of 1.8 or more and an absorption coefficient (k) of 0.001 or more at a wavelength of 780 nm. Therefore, the optical recording medium is reproducible by a CD player and a DVD player. Also, due to a metal recording thin film layer formed on a substrate, the amplitude of a recording signal is increased and the optical reliability is also improved. Also, because of a thin buffering layer, the manufacturing costs can be reduced. Also, by adding a material whose weight is rapidly lost during decomposition to the buffering layer, the recording sensitivity and the optical reliability can be much improved.

Optical recording medium

In the optical recording medium including a substrate having pregrooves, and a metal recording layer, a buffering layer, a reflecting layer and a protecting layer which are sequentially stacked on the substrate, an angle (.theta.) of the slanted side of the pregrooves is 30.about.90.degree. and the buffering layer has 10.about.50,00O Pa.S melt-viscosity at 140.degree. C. Therefore, the optical recording medium can be compatible with a CD and playable by a DVDP, and manufactured at low costs without using a dye, while providing a high reflectivity at longer wavelength than 600 nm.

A side chain liquid crystal polymer and a manufacturing method therefor are provided. Also, an optical recording medium of which recording layer is made of the side chain liquid crystal of the present invention is provided. The side chain liquid crystal polymer expressed by the following formula (V) has excellent processing properties due to its high solubility. Also, due to its high glass transition temperature and low polydispersity, information recorded on a recording layer made of the polymer can be preserved for a long time. In addition, since the recorded type (pit) is even, the error rate is low and the occurrence of jitter noise can be remarkably reduced: ##STR1## where A is either CH.sub.2 or CH.sub.2 --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.m, R is either OCH.sub.3, CN or NO.sub.2, l is 10 to 100, m is 1 to 6, and n is to 20.

In the optical recording medium including a substrate having pregrooves, and a metal recording layer, a buffering layer, a reflecting layer and a protecting layer which are sequentially stacked on the substrate, wherein the buffering layer is formed of an organic material having a low light absorption with respect to a laser beam of 600.about.800 nm, such that light absorption (k) is less than or equal to 1.0 at 650 nm and the light absorption (k) is less than or equal to 0.1 at 780 nm. Therefore, the optical recording medium can be compatible with a compact disc (CD) and have a high reflectivity at longer wavelength than 600 nm.
