A display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, and a panel driver configured to drive the display panel. The panel driver receives input image data at a variable input frame frequency, stores the variable input frame frequency as a previous frame frequency by monitoring the variable input frame frequency, determines a reference frequency based on the previous frame frequency, determines a reference luminance as a luminance of the display panel at the reference frequency, and adjusts data voltages applied to the plurality of pixels such that a luminance of the display panel at the variable input frame frequency becomes the reference luminance.

A color conversion substrate includes a base substrate having a display area and a peripheral area positioned around the display area. A color filter layer is disposed in the display area under the base substrate. A front light blocking member is disposed in the peripheral area under the base substrate and includes first light blocking layers. The first light blocking layers overlap each other in a first direction that is a thickness direction of the base substrate. A side light blocking member is disposed in the peripheral area under the base substrate and is disposed outside the front light blocking member to surround the front light blocking member.

Disclosed is a display device which includes a display panel, a voltage generator, and a driving controller. The voltage generator generates a driving voltage and determines a voltage level of the driving voltage based on a voltage control signal. A current compensator calculates a load based on previous image data and outputs compensation image data with target luminance by compensating for current image data based on the load. The driving controller turns on the current compensator in a normal mode such that an image is displayed with the target luminance, and turns off the current compensator in a setting mode such that an image corresponding to the current image data is displayed with given reference luminance.

The source device changes a frame rate of an image frame composing the image data while the displaying operation is performed. The sink device changes a frame rate of a panel driving frame for the displaying operation by adjusting a vertical blank period of the panel driving frame as the frame rate of the image frame is changed. Here, the sink device adjusts a common voltage applied to a display panel included in the sink device during a display operation of an individual frame, in accordance with the frame rate of the panel driving frame.

The controller includes a timing changing unit which receives the first image signal and changes a first image signal pixel size corresponding to the first image signal to a panel pixel size corresponding to the display panel to generate the first output signal, and a frequency changing unit which receives the first output signal from the timing changing unit and reduces a frame frequency of the first output signal based on the first image signal to output the first final output signal.
