In systems and methods of allocating carriers in a wireless communication network, a plurality of wireless devices in communication with an access node is ranked in a first ranking according to a required data rate of each wireless device. A carrier metric is determined for each of a plurality of carriers of the access node according to an actual data rate of each of the carriers and the required data rate of each wireless device, and each of the carriers is ranked in a second ranking for each of the plurality of wireless devices according to the determined carrier metric of each of the plurality of carriers. A first wireless device is selected from the first ranking, and a carrier from the second ranking is allocated to the selected first wireless device when the carrier provides the required data rate of the selected first wireless device.

Allocating carriers in a wireless communication system

In systems and methods of transmitting information to a wireless device, information is received at a first access node from a second access node over a communication link between the first and second access nodes, the information comprising an indication of whether the transmission of a resource block at the first access node may cause interference with a transmission at the second access node. The first access node transmits the resource block when it is determined that the transmission at the first access node will not interfere with a transmission at the second access node.

Data is provided to each selected wireless device, a burstiness metric is received based on the provided data, and a burstiness profile of the wireless communication system is determined.

In a system and method of determining bandwidth requirements of an intermediate network between a first network and a second network, determining data throughput characteristics of each of a plurality of carriers in communication with the intermediate network, determining a load balancing efficiency metric based on the determined carrier data throughput characteristics, estimating a multiplexing factor based on the load balancing efficiency metric and a total number of the plurality of carriers, and determining an actual bandwidth requirement of the intermediate network based on the multiplexing factor and a theoretical maximum bandwidth of the intermediate network.

In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a monitor module, a detector module and an adjustment module. The monitor module is configured to receive a set of indicators from a wireless network. The detector module is configured to detect an underperformance condition during a time period and within a first cell of the wireless network based on the set of indicators. The adjustment module is configured to iteratively adjust a parameter associated with a second cell of the wireless network to produce an adjusted parameter. The adjustment module is configured to send the adjusted parameter to the wireless network to improve performance of the wireless network. The adjustment module is configured to restore, after the time period, the parameter associated with the second cell to a value equal to a value for the parameter prior to the time period, and send that value of the parameter to the wireless network.
