A plasma display panel sustain-discharge circuit. First and second signal lines for supplying first and second voltages and at least one inductor coupled between one end of the panel capacitor and a third voltage are formed. Energy is stored in the inductor through a path formed between the third voltage and the first signal line in a state where a voltage of one end of the panel capacitor is substantially fixed to the first voltage. The voltage of one end of the panel capacitor substantially decreases to the second voltage using resonance current generated between the inductor and the panel capacitor and the stored energy. Energy is stored in the inductor through a path formed between the third voltage and the second line in a state where a voltage of one end of the panel capacitor is substantially fixed to the second voltage. The voltage of one end of the panel capacitor substantially increases to the first voltage using the resonance current generated between the inductor and the panel capacitor and the stored energy.

Apparatus and method for driving a plasma display panel

Disclosed are a driving device and a driving method for a plasma display panel (PDP). A panel capacitor is formed by a scan electrode and a sustain electrode. The charges are moved from the panel capacitor to a capacitor by turning on a transistor which is connected between the scan electrode and the capacitor. By this method, the voltage of the panel capacitor is steeply reduced so that a discharge is generated in the panel capacitor. When the voltage of the capacitor increases because of the charges moved from the panel capacitor, the gate-source voltage of the transistor is reduced. As a result, the transistor is turned off so that the scan electrode is floated. Accordingly, the discharge is steeply quenched so that the wall charges are precisely controlled. After the capacitor is discharged, the above-noted operation may be repeated.

Driving device and method of plasma display panel by floating a panel electrode

A driving apparatus of a plasma display panel for applying a rising or falling waveform to a panel capacitor, comprising a transistor for forming a current path between a power source and the panel capacitor while the transistor is turned on, and which is coupled between the power source and one end of the panel capacitor. A first capacitor and a second capacitor are coupled in parallel to each other and in between a drain and a gate of the transistor. A first resistor and a first diode are coupled in parallel to each other between a first end of the first capacitor and the gate, and a second resistor and a second diode are coupled in parallel to each other between a first end of the second capacitor and the gate.

Driving apparatus of plasma display panel

A method for driving a display panel to produce an efficient sustain discharge is provided. In one embodiment, the display panel includes a plurality of scanning electrodes that are driven by a sustain discharge signal. A corresponding plurality of common electrode groups is driven individually by different sustain discharge signals. Sustain discharge is performed by alternately applying high level sustain pulses to each the plurality of scanning electrodes and each the plurality of common electrode groups. Sustain pulses with a high level are applied sequentially to each the plurality of common electrode groups in time intervals between the sustain pulses with the high level applied to the plurality of scanning electrodes. Therefore, it is possible to maintain a duty rate of a sustain discharge signal near 50% while reducing a peak value of currents generated upon sustain discharge driving, thereby achieving stable sustain discharge.

Panel driving method for sustain period and display panel using the same

A PDP driving method. No rising ramp voltage is applied to a scan electrode during a reset period. The final voltage of a falling ramp voltage is reduced to a voltage by which all the discharge cells can fire the discharge during the reset period. A difference between the voltage applied to the address electrode of the discharge cell to be selected and the voltage applied to the scan electrode is established to be greater than the maximum discharge firing voltage.

A plasma display panel driver for applying a Zener diode to a falling ramp driving circuit, and reducing a falling ramp driving initial voltage to a voltage that causes a discharge. Disclosed is a PDP driving method which may include generating subfield information that shows ON/OFF states of discharge cells from among a plurality of subfields from input image signals, generating address information that shows ON/OFF states of the discharge cells per subfield from the subfield data, counting the number of the discharge cells that are ON from among the discharge cells from the address data, and controlling a waveform applied during a reset period of a subsequent subfield.

In a plasma display panel driving method, a final voltage of a falling ramp voltage is reduced to a voltage for firing a discharge at all the discharge cells in a reset period. A difference between a voltage at an address electrode of a discharge cell to be selected and a voltage applied to a scan electrode is established to be greater than a maximum discharge firing voltage in an address period. A voltage greater than a sustain voltage is applied to the scan electrode so as to convert positive wall charges which can be formed on the scan electrode of a discharge cell which is not selected in the address period into negative wall charges.
