The support frame includes a first support part contacting a lower surface of the main display panel and a second support part supporting a lower surface of the protective member.

A backlight assembly includes a light source providing light, a mold frame receiving the light source unit and a bottom chassis. The bottom chassis includes a bottom plate, sidewalls extending from the bottom plate and an extension part bent from at least one of the sidewalls and overlapping an adjacent sidewall. The mold frame and the bottom chassis are integrally formed. The extension part overlaps the adjacent sidewall at a corner of the bottom chassis. Thus, the torsional strength of the bottom chassis and a backlight assembly having the bottom chassis is improved. The torsional strength is maintained when a backlight assembly is manufactured.

In an LCD apparatus having a backlight assembly, a light guide plate includes an incident surface for receiving light, a reflecting surface for reflecting the light and an emitting surface for emitting the light. A linear distance between the reflecting and emitting surfaces is smaller than a height of the incident surface. An optical sheet is positioned at the emitting surface having a height lower than the height of the incident surface. Accordingly, although the height of the incident surface increases, the linear distance between the reflecting and emitting surfaces does not increase. Therefore, the light guide plate can obtain an area of the incident surface appropriate to efficiently receive the light, thereby improving a light efficiency of the backlight assembly and preventing an increase in a thickness of the backlight assembly.

Backlight assembly and liquid crystal display apparatus having the same

An illuminating device in which one or more chamfer surfaces are formed at one or more corner portions, respectively, of a light guiding part, and a luminous body is disposed corresponding to a chamfer surface, and a display apparatus using the illuminating device are disclosed. The illuminating device has the light guiding part for guiding light to a display unit of the display apparatus and a light source part. The light guiding part includes an incident surface on which the light is incident, a back surface opposite to the incident surface, an emitting surface from which the light is emitted to the display unit, side surfaces perpendicular to the incident surface and the emitting surface, and chamfer surfaces formed at corner portions, respectively, each connected to the incident surface and one of the side surfaces. The light source part includes marginal luminous bodies each corresponding to each of the chamfer surfaces. Illuminating device and display apparatus using the same

A liquid crystal display device has a light guiding plate with a novel structure. The liquid crystal display device has a back light assembly including a light source and the light guiding plate, a display unit for displaying an image and a case for fixedly receiving the back light assembly and the display unit. The light guiding plate is formed at a bottom portion thereof with a light diffusing pattern for uniformly outputting the incident light. A light dispersing member for dispersing the light in the light guiding plate is provided in the light guiding plate. The leaking light is outputted towards the display unit by contacting with the dispersing particles of the light dispersing member, so the light efficiency and the brightness are improved.
