A management computer stores, in a memory, virtual logical volume management information showing information on virtual logical volumes provided to a host computer by a storage device, and pool management information showing information related to a use status of pools. The management computer acquires performance information related to an access to the storage device from the host computer, determines whether the acquired performance related to the access satisfies a predetermined first required performance, or not, and specifies any virtual logical volume which is a cause of the state based on the virtual logical volume management information if the first required performance is not satisfied. The management computer calculates a capacity consumption trend of the real area included in each pool based on the pool management information, creates a countermeasure for satisfying the first required performance implementable after a given time, and outputs the countermeasure to an output device.

Computer system, storage management computer, and storage management method

The management computer includes a memory and a processor. The processor recognizes a state of a storage system that provides a first volume as a logical volume that stores a first image of an object. The processor generates a second volume as a virtual logical volume that stores a second image of the object. The processor selects, based on the state, one generation processing from a plurality of generation processing including: first generation processing of associating the second volume with the first image and differential data from the first image to provide the second volume; and second generation processing of generating the second volume as a logical volume and copying the first image to the second volume to provide the second volume. The processor transmits an instruction to execute the selected generation processing to the storage system.

A management computer stores an operation requirement of a virtual machine and a scheme of a first configuration change executed by a host computer or a storage apparatus. The management computer determines whether a second configuration change configured so as to be executed automatically in the host computer or the storage apparatus is executed. The management system, based on the storage management information, determines whether or not a first storage system is a component of a virtual storage system, and in a case where the result of this determination is affirmative, identifies, based on the storage management information, a second storage system, which is a storage system other than the virtual storage system that includes the first storage system, and allows a user to perform a specific operation only with respect to this second storage system.

Storage system group including scale-out storage system and management method therefor

A storage system manages a pool to which multiple VVOLs (virtual logical volumes conforming to thin provisioning) are associated, assigns a real area (RA) from any tier in an available tier pattern associated with a write-destination VVOL to a write-destination virtual area (VA), and carries out a reassignment process for migrating data inside this RA to an RA of a different tier than the tier having this RA based on the access status of the RA assigned to the VA. A management system assumes that a specified tier has been removed from the available tier pattern of a target VVOL, predicts the performance of the target VVOL and all the other VVOL associated with the pool to which the target VVOL is associated, determines whether or not there is a VVOL for which the predicted performance is lower than a required performance, and when such a VVOL does not exist, instructs the storage system to remove the specified tier from the available tier pattern of the target VVOL.

When receiving a command to change an attribute of a virtual storage area or virtual volume, the logical storage area management unit determines the presence or absence of a unit logical storage area in a logical storage area group or pool linked to a different attribute and that is not yet allocated to a virtual storage area. The logical storage area management unit links a unit logical storage area determined to be present to a virtual storage area, reads data stored in the unit logical storage area linked to a virtual storage area subjected to an attribute change, and stores the read data in accordance with the different attribute.

Storage system and method for controlling attributes such as encryption attributes in virtual storage areas

A storage management program is provided with a function of determining a suspension/continuation of a remote backup based on an operation-at-failure management table, and accomplishes the suspension/continuation of the backup based on the application in which a failure has occurred and the mode of this failure. The storage management program is also provided with a function of computing a change in the quantity of data from the last backup before the occurrence of the failure until the first backup after the occurrence of the failure, and determining the suspension/continuation of the backup, enabling to suspend/continue the backup in line with the operating status of the application.
