An additive supply apparatus includes a cartridge configured to accommodate a liquid additive and discharge the additive through a discharge port thereof, a discharge tube connected to the cartridge and configured to guide the additive discharged from the cartridge, a check valve assembly interposed between the cartridge and the discharge tube and configured to selectively open or close the discharge tube and the discharge port of the cartridge based on a change in pressure, a pump configured to generate the pressure to be provided to the check valve assembly, a pressure tube that connects the pump to the check valve assembly and configured to transmit the pressure to the check valve assembly, and a water supply tube coupled to the discharge tube or the check valve assembly and configured to supply washing water to at least one of the discharge tube or the check valve assembly.

A method for washing laundry and a washing machine, in which balancing of the laundry load is effectively carried out. The method for washing includes supplying wash water mixed with a detergent, spinning or rinsing the laundry by rotating the washing machine drum in which the laundry is located, thereby causing the laundry to be repeatedly lifted within and then fall towards the bottom of the drum. The method further involves balancing the laundry by repeatedly accelerating and decelerating the drum. The wash water is then drained.

A washing machine that calculates a temperature of a balancer to effectively control a motor and a method of controlling the washing machine are provided. The washing machine comprises a rotatable drum that receives laundry, a motor that rotates the drum, a balancer that is connected to the drum, the balancer changing a center of gravity of the drum, and a controller that rotates the motor at a constant rotational speed and then calculates a temperature of the balancer based on a period of a variation in rotational speed of the motor.

Washing machine and method for controlling same

A washing method and a washing machine are provided. Wash water is drained from a tub prior to initiating a main spinning process, and wash water is supplied into a drum to decrease the volume of the laundry which is increased by the draining. Therefore, it is possible to effectively reduce the volume of laundry and thus to improve the mobility of the laundry. Then, a main spinning process is performed by spinning the drum at high speed.
