Disclosed is an organic light emitting diode display device and a method for driving the same. The device includes a display panel having a plurality of sub-pixels wherein the sub-pixels formed on each horizontal line are connected to a gate line on the same horizontal line and are further connected to a gate line on a next horizontal line to further receive a gate on signal from the gate line on the next horizontal line so as to display an image, a power supply supplying first and second power signals to power lines of the display panel and supplying a compensation voltage to a compensation power line, and a timing controller for arranging external input video data suitably for driving of the display panel and controlling gate and data drivers such that the image is displayed based on a data voltage compensated for by the compensation voltage.

Compensating organic light emitting diode display device and method for driving the same using two adjacent gate lines per pixel

An array substrate includes a transparent substrate, an organic insulation layer, a pixel electrode, a reflective layer, a light blocking pattern and a switching part. The transparent substrate includes a reflective window that reflects an ambient light and a transmissive window that transmits an artificial light. The organic insulation layer disposed over the transparent substrate becomes thinner gradually at a boundary between the transmissive window and the reflective window. The pixel electrode is formed in the transmissive region. The reflective layer is disposed over the organic insulation layer of the reflective window. The light blocking pattern is disposed at the boundary between the transmissive and reflective windows to prevent a light leakage. The switching part is electrically connected to the pixel electrode to apply an image signal to the pixel electrode. Therefore, a light leakage occurring at boundary is prevented by the light blocking pattern.

According to one embodiment, the liquid crystal device includes a sensing part to sense an image in a scan mode of the liquid crystal device, the sensing part including at least one charging element which is charged at a start of the scan mode with a reset voltage, so as to reset the at least one charging element for the scan mode; and a display part to display an image corresponding to a data signal according to a scan signal in a display mode of the liquid crystal device.

Liquid crystal device displaying and sensing images and method of driving the same

To improve reliability of a liquid crystal display apparatus using an upper substrate, the upper substrate to be combined with a lower substrate includes a transparent electrode and a first spacer. The lower substrate includes a display region and a driving region surrounding the display region to provide a drive signal to the display region. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the upper substrate and the lower substrate. The first spacer is formed on the transparent electrode corresponding to the driving region to protect the driving region. The first spacer is disposed such that a rubbing having a rubbing direction of the upper substrate does not end at the first spacer. Thus, a corner white phenomenon that is caused by impurities stacked at a side portion of the first spacer may be reduced.

Spacer positioning to improve display quality in a liquid crystal display apparatus

The invention includes a liquid crystal display panel including spacers and a method of making this panel. The spacers, which are positioned in the liquid crystal-filled gap between a first substrate and a second substrate, provide support to the substrates and prevent the substrate from bending when the device is used as a touch screen panel. By preventing the bending of the device, the spacers help prevent the undesirable ripple effect suffered by liquid crystal devices. In order to minimize the amount of light blocked by the spacers, the spacers are formed in a region where light is substantially intercepted anyway, such as in a contact hole. A black matrix layer is formed on the spacers. The spacers may be distributed unevenly between the substrates, depending on how much force each of the spacers will have to absorb in each area of the panel.

The present invention provides a transflective liquid crystal display device having at least one switching element having at least a drain electrode, a first passivation layer formed over the switching element with the first passivation layer defining a drain contact hole exposing a first portion the drain electrode, a transparent pixel electrode contacting the drain electrode through the drain contact hole and defining a contact opening that exposes a second portion of the drain electrode, the contact opening being defined in a portion of the transparent pixel electrode in the drain contact hole, and a reflective pixel electrode contacting the transparent pixel electrode in the drain contact hole and contacting the drain electrode through the contact opening.

Array substrate for use in a transflective liquid crystal display device and a method of fabricating the same

An array panel for a digital X-ray detector including a gate driver () is disclosed. A switching element (TFT) is formed in a pixel region defined by gate () and data lines (). A photoelectric cell () generates electrons in response to the light supplied from outward. A pixel electrode () is formed in the pixel region, and gathers electrons generated from the photoelectric cell (). A storage capacitor (C) is connected to the drain electrode () and stores the electrons gathered in the pixel electrode (). A gate driver () is electrically connected to an end portion of the gate line (), and provides a scan signal for driving the switching element (TFT). A data pad () is electrically connected to an end portion of the data line (). The electrons stored in the storage capacitor (C) move to the data pad () as the switching element (TFT) is turned on. Therefore, the manufacturing cost is reduced, and the manufacturing process is simplified.

In an array substrate and an LCD apparatus having the same, the array substrate includes a signal line, a first insulating layer formed on the signal line, and a pixel electrode formed on the first insulating layer and overlapped with the signal line. The pixel electrode is electrically connected with the signal line so as to discharge a signal through the signal line. A second insulating layer is disposed between the pixel electrode and the first insulating layer, and includes an opening formed in an overlapped area of the pixel electrode and the signal line so as to partially expose the first insulating layer. Thus, the LCD apparatus may have an enhanced display quality.

Spacers for display devices

An LCD apparatus includes first and second substrates, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a main region having switching device and first electrodes, and a sub region having a second electrode. The switching device applies a data signal to the first electrodes in response to a gate signal applied to the second electrodes. The sub region is disposed at a circumference of the main region. The second substrate includes a third electrode that faces the first and second electrodes. A reference signal that has a different magnitude from the gate signal is applied to the third electrode. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a bright line surrounds main region through which images are displayed. Thus, the bright line brings out the images. That is, the images are better defined.

Liquid crystal display apparatus which transmits light at the circumference of the main image display region and method of manufacturing the same

An array substrate includes a transparent substrate, pixel electrodes, switching devices, a data line, a gate line and a light blocking pattern. The light blocking pattern corresponding to a storage electrode is disposed on the transparent substrate, and the light blocking pattern blocks a light leaked from a space between the pixel electrodes. The pixel electrodes are spaced apart from the light blocking pattern by a first distance. The data line is spaced apart from the light blocking pattern by a second distance, and the data line is disposed under a region between the pixel electrodes. The data line is electrically connected to the source electrode, and the data line has a first width. The gate line is electrically connected to the gate electrode to turn on/off the switching devices. Therefore, a black matrix is not required, thereby enhancing an aperture ratio.
