A system includes a generator. Three AC feeders are connected for feeding AC output from the generator. A rectifier is electrically connected to the three AC feeders and to a load via a first DC feeder and a second DC feeder. A first resistor connects between a the first DC feeder and ground. A second resistor connects between the second DC feeder and ground. At least one of a first current sensor is operatively connected to detect current in the first DC feeder and/or a second current sensor is operatively connected to detect current in the second DC feeder. A controller is configured to monitor for changes in common mode current based on the input from the at least one current sensor, and to determine presence of a fault if change in the common mode current exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Common mode current feed fault protection

A fluid delivery system is provided including a reservoir including oil, a hydraulic pump in fluid communication with the reservoir, and a heat exchanger system. The heat exchanger system is in fluid communication with the hydraulic pump, a generator, and an engine gearbox. The hydraulic pump is configured to deliver the oil to the heat exchanger system. The heat exchanger system is configured to provide the oil according to first temperature criteria to the generator and provide the oil according to second temperature criteria to the engine gearbox.

Multi temperature generator and engine shared oil

A system includes a generator. Three AC feeders are connected for feeding AC output from the generator. A rectifier is electrically connected to the three AC feeders and to a load via a first DC feeder and a second DC feeder. A first resistor connects between a first one of the DC feeders and ground. A first voltage sensor is operatively connected to detect voltage across the first resistor. A second resistor connects between the second DC feeder and ground. A second voltage sensor is operatively connected to detect voltage across the second resistor. A controller is configured to monitor for changes in common mode voltage based on the input from the first sensor and from the second sensor, and to determine presence of a fault if change in the common mode voltage exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Common mode voltage feed fault protection

A method of controlling dissipation of regenerated power in a multi-channel drive system having a plurality of inverters connected in parallel across an input power supply to drive one or more loads via one or more motors. The method includes determining a circulation current demand for the inverters when the drive system is operating in regenerative mode, the circulating current demand being dependent on the regenerated power and applied to the inverters such that the regenerated power flows through the inverters and is dissipated by the inverters.

Regenerative energy dissipation control in a multichannel drive

A system includes a permanent magnet (PM) machine including a first phase winding and a second phase winding and a permanent magnet configured to rotate relative to the first and second phase windings. The first phase winding has a main leg and a return leg extending from the first phase winding. The second phase winding has a main leg and a return leg extending from the second phase winding. A return switch unit is operatively connected to the return legs of the first phase winding and the second phase winding. The return switch unit includes a switch configured to connect the return legs of the first phase and second phase to a neutral node in the return switch unit in a normal state, and to disconnect the return legs of the first and second phase windings from the neutral node in a fault protection state.

Permanent magnet machine fault protection

A closing mechanism controller includes contactor operating logic that generates a software or firmware based closing mechanism command signal. The controller also includes hardware interlock circuitry that generates an interlock signal, the hardware interlock circuity being configured to compare an interlock signal to the software based closing mechanism command signal and to provide an enable signal to the closing mechanism when the interlock signal matches the closing mechanism command signal.

Hardware protection for contactor driver independence

Systems for parallel excitation for a synchronous machine are provided. Aspects include a rectification circuit coupled to an output of a permanent magnet generator, and an excitation winding connected to an output of the rectification circuit, a direct current (DC) power source connected between an output of the rectification circuit and the excitation winding, wherein the excitation winding supplies an excitation voltage to an excitation armature in a main generator during a during a plurality of operational modes, wherein the plurality of operational modes comprise a startup mode and a generator mode, wherein a DC excitation voltage is provided to the excitation windings by the DC power source during the startup mode, and wherein the DC excitation voltage is provided to the excitation windings by the rectification circuit during the generator mode.

Parallel excitation of motor start function for three stage synchronous generator

A system includes a transformer rectifier unit (TRU) including a backfeed sense module. A contactor is operatively connected to the TRU for selectively supplying DC power to a DC bus from the TRU with the contactor closed and isolating the DC bus from the TRU with the contactor opened. A contactor driver is operatively connected to receive a signal from the backfeed sense module and to control opening and closing of the contactor based on the signal. The contactor driver is configured to open the contactor upon receipt of the signal indicative of backfeed detected in the TRU.

Transformer rectifier unit (TRU) backfeed interlock

A control system for an electric motor powered by a battery can be configured to receive an input instantaneous power or torque command corresponding to a commanded instantaneous power or torque. The control system can be configured to determine if the battery is capable of supplying the commanded instantaneous power or torque based on a state of charge (SOC) of the battery. The control system can be configured such that if the battery is capable of supplying the commanded instantaneous power or torque, the control system outputs the input instantaneous power or torque command, and such that if the battery is not capable of supplying the commanded instantaneous power or torque, the control system outputs an available maximum instantaneous power or torque command corresponding to an available maximum instantaneous power or torque that is less than the commanded instantaneous power or torque.

Electrical motor power control systems

A battery charging system for a hybrid electric powerplant can be configured to determine a maximum available charging power available from windmilling and/or excess thermal engine power available, and to use up to the maximum available charging power and/or the excess thermal engine power available to charge a battery. In certain embodiments, a control module can be configured to determine the maximum available charging power available from windmilling.

A control system for an electric motor powered by a battery can be configured to receive an input power or torque command corresponding to a commanded power or torque. The control system can be configured to determine if the battery is capable of supplying the commanded power or torque over a time period based on a state of charge of the battery. The control system can be configured such that if the battery is capable of supplying the commanded power or torque over the time period, the control system outputs the input power or torque command, and if the battery is not capable of supplying the commanded power or torque over the time period, the control system outputs an available maximum power or torque command corresponding to an available maximum power or torque over the time period that is less than the commanded power or torque.

Electric motor power control systems

An auxiliary power unit (APU) system for an aircraft can include a fuel consuming system configured to generate and output electrical energy for use by one or more aircraft systems and a battery system configured to output stored electrical energy for use by the one or more aircraft systems. The fuel consuming system can include a fuel consuming APU, and an APU generator operatively connected to the fuel consuming APU and configured to convert APU motion into APU generator alternating current (AC). The system can include a high voltage AC line operatively connected to the generator. The battery system can include a battery configured to output battery direct current (DC).

Auxiliary power unit systems

A system includes a first AC bus configured to supply power from a first AC power source. A second AC bus is configured to supply power from a second AC power source. A first transformer rectifier unit (TRU) connects a first DC bus to the first AC bus through a first TRU contactor (TRUC). A second TRU connects a second DC bus to the second AC bus through a second TRUC. A ram air turbine (RAT) automatic deployment controller is operatively connected to the first TRUC and to the second TRUC to automatically deploy a RAT based on the combined status of the first TRUC and the second TRUC.
