Provided herein are processes for the separation of acetonitrile from low-purity feedstock streams. The provided processes are particularly useful for isolating acetonitrile at high purity from chemical manufacturing waste streams that include methanol, water, and allyl alcohol.

Acetonitrile separation process

A process for producing acetonitrile, the process comprising: treating a feedstock stream comprising methanol, allyl alcohol, oxazole, acetonitrile, water, and hydrogen cyanide to remove hydrogen cyanide and produce an acetonitrile stream comprising less than 1 wt. % hydrogen cyanide. The process further comprises the step of distilling the acetonitrile stream in a first distillation column to produce a first distillate comprising oxazole and methanol; a first intermediate acetonitrile stream comprising acetonitrile and oxazole and less than 1 wt % allyl alcohol; a first bottoms stream comprising allyl alcohol and water. The process further comprises the step of purifying the first intermediate acetonitrile stream to produce an acetonitrile product stream and a recycle stream comprising allyl alcohol.

Process for recovering acetonitrile

A process for producing a high-purity acetonitrile product from a low-purity acetonitrile feedstock streams. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a process for producing a sales-grade, high purity acetonitrile by (a) distilling the feedstock stream in a to yield a crude acetonitrile stream, (b) treating the crude acetonitrile stream to produce an intermediate acetonitrile stream, (c) purifying the intermediate acetonitrile stream in a pressure swing distillation system to produce a recycle stream and an acetonitrile product stream, (d) recycling the recycle stream to the first distillation column, and (e) distilling the acetonitrile product stream to yield a purified acetonitrile product stream of at least 98 wt. % acetonitrile.

Process for recovering acetonitrile from acrylonitrile waste streams

Compositions and methods related to carbon nanotubes are provided. More particularly, imaging agents comprising carbon nanotubes internally loaded with a contrast agent and associated methods are provided. One example of a method may involve a method for imaging comprising: providing an imaging agent comprising a carbon nanotube loaded with contrast agent; introducing the imaging agent into a cell; and imaging the cell to detect the presence of the imaging agent.
