Examples provide digital alerts associated with activation of a smart siren device of an emergency vehicle. An alert manager provides digital alerts to recipients when a smart siren device is turned on. The alert manager identifies any recipients within range of the smart siren device. The alert manager generates a notification including notification data. The notification is transmitted to one or more recipients within range of the emergency siren device. The notification data is used to generate a digital alert, which is presented to a user via a user interface device or other output device. The system determines when to provide digital alerts by applying user-configurable rules to notification data for customizable digital alerts to selected recipients. The digital alerts can include emergency vehicle indicators identifying the location of emergency vehicles having activated emergency sirens within digital maps displayed to users in vehicles.

Smart emergency vehicle siren providing digital activation alerts

Examples provide emergency vehicle warning light device activation digital alerts to recipients. An alert manager monitors activation of smart light devices on an emergency vehicle. When smart light device activation is detected, the alert manager generates a digital alert notification including notification data. The notification data identifies the current location of the emergency vehicle. The notification is transmitted to one or more selected recipients. The notification data in the digital alert notification is used to generate a digital alert on a user interface device or other output device associated with each recipient. The system determines when to provide digital alerts by applying user-configurable rules to notification data for customizable digital alerts to selected recipients. The digital alerts can include emergency vehicle indicators identifying the location of emergency vehicles having activated emergency lights within digital maps displayed to users in vehicles.

Smart emergency vehicle light system providing digital alerts

Examples provide pre-configuration of emergency vehicle lockable device. A device manager obtains a unique identifier (UID) assigned to a lockable device, such as a multicolor lightbar or a siren device in an uninitialized state. The UID and pre-configuration parameters are received in a request to pre-configure a single device or a batch request to pre-configure a plurality of lockable devices. The device manager updates a lock status of a locked function from a locked state in which the lockable function is inoperable to a pre-unlocked state in accordance with the pre-configuration parameters. The device manager generates, and stores unlock code(s) to unlock the pre-configured lockable function. In response to receiving the UID of a lockable device during initialization, the unlock code(s) are automatically transmitted to a user device associated with the lockable device to unlock and enable the pre-unlocked function to operate in accordance with the pre-configuration parameters.

Preconfiguration of emergency vehicle device lockable functions

Examples provide a vehicle multicolor light control system for managing light devices using serial data communication. A vehicle includes a plurality of multicolor light devices and a plurality of physical light control switches. A light controller device acts as an intermediary device between the light devices and the switch devices. The light controller device sends a data packet including instructions for controlling light activation, light deactivation, color combinations of the light, flash pattern of the light device and other functions of the light device in response to user activation or deactivation of one or more of the physical switch devices, a vehicle function activation, input from a user interface device or other data indicating a user-selected mode. The instructions in the data packet can control a single light device or multiple light devices within the same light device zone.

Multicolor data control

Examples provide a multicolor light device having a plurality of lockable functions, such as color combinations and flash pattern functions. At production, one or more of the available functions are placed in a locked state in which the locked function is inoperable. The dealer or user can obtain an unlock code to unlock one or more light colors and/or flash patterns when desired. Thus, if a user wants the red and blue lights to be operable, the user can obtain one or more unlock codes to unlock the red and/or blue lights in the user-selected flash patterns and color combinations. When unlocked, the selected function operates normally. A data storage device on the multicolor light device stores an assigned UID, a set of available functions associated with the plurality of LED lights, and a lock status of each function in the set of available functions.

Emergency vehicle multicolor light device locking system

Examples provide a siren device having a plurality of lockable functions, such as amplifier strength and siren tone functions. At production, one or more of the available functions are placed in a locked state in which the locked function is inoperable. One or more of the functions may be initially unlocked at manufacture or purchase. The user can obtain an unlock code to unlock one or more of the functions, if desired, after purchase. Thus, if a user wants to increase the amplifier strength from one-hundred watts to two-hundred watts, the user can obtain one or more unlock codes to unlock that selected function for a licensed time-period. When unlocked, the selected function operates normally. A data storage device on the multifunction siren device stores an assigned UID, a set of available lockable functions, and a lock status of each function in the set of available functions.

Multifunction siren device locking system

Examples provide a system and method for remote management of lockable devices associated with emergency vehicles. A lockable device is a device, such as a multicolor light device or a siren device having one or more available functions which are initially placed in a locked state at the time of manufacture. A user can unlock the locked functions by logging into a remote device manager on a user device while the locked device is connected to the user device. The user selects one or more locked functions to unlock. The remote device manager generates a unique unlock code for each locked function selected for unlock. The unlock code is returned to the user device for utilization in unlocking the selected functions. The unlock code enables operation of the locked function. A lock status is updated to indicate which functions have been unlocked.

Remote emergency vehicle device management and diagnostics

An autonomous communication and control system for controlling auxiliary equipment associated with a vehicle includes a vehicle mounted controller and output relay module. The controller includes an interface for receiving user input commands relating to control actions to be taken with respect to the auxiliary equipment. The controller is adapted to wirelessly communicate indications of the actions taken with respect to the auxiliary equipment (events) as well as other data relating to the status of the vehicle. The controller interface includes a display for displaying the messages for an occupant of the vehicle. The controller may be adapted to communicate information regarding the operating status of the vehicle for fleet management and maintenance purposes and may also be adapted for monitoring an inventory of removable assets to ensure the vehicle is stocked with necessary equipment for carrying its assigned duties.

Autonomous communication and control system for vehicles

Embodiments of an apparatus and methods of use thereof are provided. An apparatus for work zone intrusion detection related to a stationary vehicle, whereby the apparatus includes a processor configured to receive radar detection data about an oncoming vehicle and determine when to trigger an alarm sound in accordance with the radar detection data upon determining that the oncoming vehicle is moving in a direction and at an orientation to collide with the stationary vehicle. A method of using an apparatus for detecting and warning against intrusion in a work zone around a stationary vehicle is provided that includes obtaining, from a radar unit, detection data for a moving vehicle or object approaching the stationary vehicle, and determining, using a processor, when to trigger an alarm sound to allow a response time according to the detection data and a warning mode.

Apparatus and method for vehicle related work zone intrusion detection

Embodiments for use of an apparatus and method for alerting an occupant within a vehicle are provided. An apparatus may include a lidar unit configured to detect an oncoming intruder approaching a stationary vehicle. The lidar unit is mounted to an external surface of the stationary vehicle or coupled to an emergency vehicle warning device. An alarm is sounded or warning lights are triggered when the oncoming intruder approaches within a zone surrounding the vehicle. A method may include providing a controller unit and a lidar unit configured to detect the motion of any oncoming person, animal, or object approaching a stationary vehicle. The lidar unit rotates to scan the region surrounding the stationary vehicle and provides detection data. Upon detecting an oncoming intruder, the detection data is transmitted to the controller unit within the vehicle, and an alarm may be sounded to warn an occupant located within the vehicle.

A system for controlling an auxiliary vehicle light is described, whereby a wearable controller that may be worn on a user's head or coupled to an article of clothing located on a user's head is useful for transmitting a position and orientation of a user's head to an auxiliary vehicle light located on a surface of a vehicle. The auxiliary vehicle light may include a pivotable body capable of panning, tilting, or rolling. The wearable controller includes sensors to determine an orientation and angular displacement of a user's head. Both the auxiliary vehicle light and the wearable controller includes transceivers for wirelessly communicating with each other.

An apparatus for controlling a vehicle light with adjustable light output is provided, whereby the apparatus includes a processor configured to receive on-board diagnostics (OBD) data and to determine a light output mode for the vehicle light in accordance with the OBD data, whereby the OBD data indicates a vehicle condition. The apparatus includes a transceiver coupled to the processor that is configured to signal the light output mode to the vehicle light. A method of controlling a vehicle light is provided that includes receiving OBD data from an OBD system in a vehicle, whereby the OBD data determines a vehicle condition, determining a light output mode of the vehicle light in accordance with the OBD data, and sending to the vehicle light appropriate commands for adjusting the light output in accordance with the determined light output mode.

Apparatus and method for controlling a vehicle light with adjustable light output using OBD data

An apparatus and method for controlling a vehicle light having an adjustable light output are provided. An apparatus includes a processor configured to receive sensor data from a sensor module having a number of sensors. The processor is further able to determine a light output mode for the vehicle light in accordance with the sensor data. The sensor data indicates a vehicle or environment condition. A method of using an apparatus for controlling a vehicle light with adjustable light output is provided that includes receiving sensor data from one or more sensors in a vehicle, determining a light output mode in accordance with the sensor data, and sending to the vehicle light appropriate commands for adjusting the light output in accordance with the determined light output mode.
