The system and method may include communicating with a secondary portable device separate from the portable device, which may be considered a primary portable device. The secondary portable device may be not be configured to communicate with the object or unaware that it is communicating with the object, and may receive communication parameters from the primary portable device.

A localization module is configured to receive the signal information from the sensors and determine a location of the portable device based on the signal information. A passive entry/passive start (PEPS) system is configured to receive the location of the portable device from the localization module and perform a vehicle function including at least one of unlocking a door of the vehicle, unlocking a trunk of the vehicle, and allowing the vehicle to be started based on the location of the portable device. Each of the plurality of sensors are synchronized.

Localization and passive entry/passive start systems and methods for vehicles

A portable device is configured to establish a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication connection with a vehicle and to communicate with at least one sensor in the vehicle using impulse radio (IR) ultra-wide band (UWB) communication after establishment of the BLE communication connection with the vehicle is completed. A location of the portable device is determined by the vehicle based on ranging using IR UWB communication performed by the at least one sensor.

Systems and methods are provided and include a communication gateway of a control module. The communication gateway establishes wireless communication connections with a plurality of user devices. A plurality of sensors are configured to, in response to the plurality of user devices being connected to the communication gateway, communicate signal information about the wireless communication connections to the control module. The signal information indicates characteristics of the wireless communication connections. The control module (i) determines a location of each user device of the plurality of user devices based on the signal information and (ii) generates a plurality of entries based on the signal information. Each entry of the plurality of entries corresponds to each of the plurality of user devices. A user settings activation module (i) determines user profiles corresponding to each entry of the plurality of entries and (ii) activates at least one vehicle function based on the user profiles.

Activating vehicle functions based on vehicle occupant location

Systems and methods are disclosed and include receiving, with a peripheral device, a message packet from a portable device, the message packet including an authenticated packet with a de-whitened tone byte inserted therein. The portable device generates first message authentication code (MAC) bytes based on a shared secret key and generates the authenticated packet based on the first MAC bytes, first nonce bytes, and a message byte. The peripheral device validates the message packet in response to determining that the first MAC bytes match second MAC bytes and that the first nonce bytes match second nonce bytes. The peripheral device generates a reconstructed message packet in response to validating the message packet by removing the de-whitened tone byte from the authenticated packet. The communication gateway establishes a communication link between the portable device and the communication gateway in response to receiving the reconstructed message packet.

A system and method for a vehicle including a scanner; and an advertising device configured to: (i) exchange security information with the scanner; (ii) pair with the scanner in response to the security information of the scanner being authenticated; (iii) generate and store a target ID for the scanner in a memory of the advertising device; (iv) assign and transmit the target ID to the scanner; and (v) broadcast an advertising packet (i) exchange security information with the advertising device; (ii) pair with the advertising device in response to the security information of the advertising device being authenticated; (iii) receive and save the target ID assigned by the advertising device; (iv) receive the advertising packet containing the target ID; and (v) determine, in response to receiving the advertising packet, whether the target ID contained in the advertising packet matches the target ID of the scanner.

A system and method for a vehicle including a communication gateway in a vehicle configured to establish a wireless communication connection with a portable device; a plurality of object sensors that detects objects surrounding the vehicle; a remote park assist system configured to (i) identify at least one parking space based on data received from the plurality of object sensors; (iv) determine a movement trajectory for the vehicle; (v) transmit a vehicle maneuver request to the portable device; (vi) receive a plurality of responses from the portable device in response to transmitting the vehicle maneuver request; and (vii) maneuver the vehicle based on the plurality of object sensors, the plurality of responses, and the movement trajectory; and the portable device, in response to receiving a request from the remote park assist system, is configured to transmit the plurality of responses.

Remote park assist message flow systems and methods

A system includes a transceiver and an access module. The transceiver is implemented at a vehicle: receives a first RF signal from a portable access device via multiple antennas; transmits a second RF signal from the vehicle to the portable access device; and receives a third RF signal from the portable access device. The third RF signal indicates an AOD of the first RF signal or a second AOA of the second RF signal as received at the portable access device. The access module: estimates a first AOA of the first RF signal; determines a resultant AOA based on the first AOA and the AOD or the second AOA; determines a location of the portable access device relative to the vehicle based on the resultant AOA; and permits access to the vehicle or control of a portion of the vehicle based on the location of the portable access device.

Ultra-high frequency low energy based phone as a key access to a vehicle using two-way communication for multipath mitigation

A system includes a communication module configured to establish a first secure communications link with a portable device and a second secure communications link with a contactless smartcard. The contactless smartcard includes a unique identification (ID). A memory module configured to store information associated with the portable device and the contactless smartcard. A temporary key module configured to store the ID of the contactless smartcard and vehicle operation limitations associated with the ID of the contactless smartcard in the memory module. An authentication module configured to (i) authenticate the portable device and (ii) authenticate the contactless smartcard. A passive entry/passive start (PEPS) module configured to receive authentication of at least (i) the portable device or (ii) the contactless smartcard from the authentication module, and perform a vehicle operation based on at least (i) the received authentication and (ii) the vehicle operation limitations stored in the memory module.

Passive entry and passive start system and method using temporary keys

A system for detecting a range extension type relay attack includes a transmitter, a receiver and a module. The transmitter transmits a RF signal from one of a vehicle and a portable access device to the other one of the vehicle and the portable access device. The receiver receives a response signal in response to the RF signal. The module: generates a parameter associated with the transmission of the RF signal and the reception of the response signal; based on the parameter, detects the range extension type relay attack performed by an attacking device, where at least one of (i) the RF signal is relayed via the attacking device from the vehicle to the portable access device, or (ii) the response signal is relayed via the attacking device from the portable access device to the vehicle; and perform a countermeasure in response to detecting the range extension type relay attack.

Passive entry/passive start systems detecting range extender type relay station attacks

Systems and methods for vehicle passive entry/passive start (PEPS) are provided. A communication gateway in a vehicle establishes a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) or an impulse radio ultra-wide band (IR UWB) communication connection with a portable device that includes a wireless charging apparatus. A low-frequency transmitter transmits a ping request to the wireless charging apparatus. The portable device transmits a response to the ping request over the communication connection to the communication gateway. The communication gateway authenticates the portable device based on information included in the received response. A passive entry/passive start (PEPS) system performs a vehicle function in response to the portable device being authenticated, including unlocking a door of the vehicle, unlocking a trunk of the vehicle, allowing a wireless charging station of the vehicle to charge the portable device, or allowing the vehicle to be started.
