Methyl paraffins formed by hydrogenating one or more LAO dimers comprising a vinylidene moiety or a trisubstituted olefin moiety may have advantageous heat transfer properties, particularly when incorporated within an electric vehicle. For example, methyl paraffins produced upon hydrogenating LAO dimers formed from one or more C-CLAOS, particularly in the presence of a Hf metallocene catalyst system, may contain 12-24 carbon atoms, and collectively have a flash point of about 130° C. or above, a pour point of about −42° C. or lower, a thermal conductivity at 80° C. of about 0.165 W/m·K or higher, and a Mouromtseff number ranging from about 17,000 to about 27,000 kg/(s·m·K) at 80° C. Heat transfer fluids comprising such methyl paraffins may be placed in contact with a heat-generating component, such as a battery and/or motor of an electric vehicle, or within a similar type of battery system, including immersive configurations for a battery.

Heat transfer fluids comprising methyl paraffins derived from linear alpha olefin dimers and use thereof

Alkylated naphthalene compositions are usually formed by reacting naphthalene with an electrophilic agent under acid-catalyzed conditions to afford a mixture of monoalkylated naphthalenes, dialkylated naphthalenes, and sometimes polyalkylated naphthalenes. Reaction conditions are usually chosen to change the product distribution for purposes of modifying lubricant properties such as viscosity or volatility. Rarely does the product distribution exceed 90 wt. % monoalkylated naphthalenes. Viscosity and volatility may alternately be modified by obtaining a first fraction enriched in monoalkylated naphthalenes and a second fraction enriched in dialkylated naphthalenes and combining the first fraction and the second fraction in a specified ratio to produce a modified alkylated naphthalene composition having a targeted value of one of the viscosity or the volatility. The first fraction and the second fraction may be obtained by fractional distillation of a first alkylated naphthalene composition to afford an overhead fraction and a bottoms fraction.

Alkylated naphthalene compositions obtained through blending or processing of monoalkylated and dialkylated naphthalene fractions

The present disclosure generally relates to alkylated aromatic compounds useful as basestocks and additives for high viscosity applications. In an embodiment is provided an alkylated aromatic compound. In another embodiment is provided a lubricant formulation that includes an alkylated aromatic compound. In another embodiment is provided a lubricant formulation that includes an alkylated aromatic compound, an additive, and optionally, a Group III basestock, Group IV basestock, Group V basestock, or a combination thereof, the Group V basestock being different than the alkylated aromatic compound. In another embodiment is provided a method of forming a lubricant formulation that includes introducing a mPAO, an aromatic compound, and an acid catalyst to a reactor under reactor conditions to form an alkylated aromatic compound; and introducing the alkylated aromatic compound to an additive to form a lubricant formulation.

Alkylated aromatic compounds for high viscosity applications

This disclosure relates to base stocks comprising a C28-C32 hydrocarbon fraction and optionally a C42-C48 hydrocarbon fraction produced by dimerization and trimerization of a linear C14 mono-olefin, a linear C16 mono-olefin, or a mixture thereof, in the presence of a Lewis acid, oil compositions comprising such base stock(s), and processes for making such base stocks.

In an embodiment, a composition including a chiral solvating agent to resolve nuclear magnetic resonance signals of an enantiomer of at least one analyte, where the chiral solvating agent facilitates in the at least one analyte binding to a Cface or a Cface of the chiral solvating agent, and where the chiral solvating agent causes an upfield shift or a downfield shift in at least one nuclear magnetic resonance signals corresponding to aH,F{H}, orP{H} signal, and where the chiral solvating agent includes a cobalt cation. In another embodiment, a method that includes mixing a chiral solvating agent, including a cobalt cation, with at least one analyte to form a solution, obtaining nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of the solution, and identifying an enantiomer of the at least one analyte. In some embodiments, the method further includes determining enantiomeric purities of the at least one analyte.

This disclosure relates to cold cranking simulator viscosity ('CCSV') boosting base stocks that allow flexibility for engine oil formulations to meet both high and low temperature viscosity requirements while maximizing fuel efficiency. The CCSV-boosting base stocks can include C28-C60 hydrocarbon materials, linear esters, tertiary amides, dialkyl carbonates, aromatic alcohols, and aromatic ethers. This disclosure also relates to lubricating oil formulations containing the CCSV-boosting base stocks, and a method for determining the CCSV-boosting efficacy of a base stock.

This disclosure relates to cold cranking simulator viscosity ('CCSV') reducing base stocks that allow flexibility for low viscosity SAE engine oil grades (e.g., 5W and 0W) to meet demanding low temperature viscosity requirements while maintaining a higher base oil viscosity for improved wear protection. The CCSV-reducing base stocks include mono-esters derivable from a Guerbet alcohol and a monocarboxylic acid. The disclosure also relates to lubricating oils containing the CCSV-reducing base stocks, and a method for improving fuel efficiency and/or wear protection in an engine by using as the lubricating engine oil a formulated oil containing one or more of the CCSV-reducing base stocks.
