In non-limiting examples of the present disclosure, systems, methods and devices for enabling real-time gestures on shared canvases are presented. A shared object service may be associated with a plurality of shared objects. A plurality of user accounts and/or client devices may be granted access to a shared object. Each client device that accesses the shared object may store a distributed data structure locally that corresponds to the shared object. When client devices perform operations associated with the shared object the operations are logged by the shared object service and timestamped. Those operations are then reported to the client devices, where cursor movements can be rendered in real time. If cursor movements and/or user input device operations associated with a cursor meet conditions for a gesture operation the cursor may be transformed to a gesture/animation and rendered on canvases of each connected client device.

Real-time gestures in shared electronic canvases

Non-limiting examples of the present disclosure enable creation and management of representations of content through the execution of copy actions, paste actions or a combination thereof. An indication of a copy action is received that copies a content portion. The copy action is analyzed to generate a (live) representation of the content portion. Other examples of representations are also generatable including a static representation and/or a live non-editable representation. As an example, a live representation is an editable and synchronized representation of the content portion that is synchronized with original source content. The live representation comprises a selectable data link that links back to the original source content and an editable representation of the content portion. In response to receiving an indication of a paste action, the live representation of the content portion is automatically rendered inline within a graphical user interface of a host application/service endpoint.

The application replaces native browser handles with selection handles to provide consistent user interface experience across platforms. The application also provides a scheme for semantic interpretation of browser gesture or touch events. The application standardizes browser events into a consistent stream of semantic events that are compatible with a plurality of devices and browsers. The application also provides a gesture or touch optimized user interface in the browser. The application determines gesture or touch input and optimizes the user interface according to the type of input.
