A refrigerator appliance includes a chilled chamber comprising a plurality of storage locations, a lighting assembly comprising a plurality of lighting zones corresponding to the plurality of storage locations, and a controller in operative communication with the lighting assembly. The controller is configured to receive a request to identify an object stored in the chilled chamber, determine that the object is located within a target location of the plurality of storage locations, identify a target lighting zone of the plurality of lighting zones that corresponds to the target location, and illuminate the target lighting zone.

Method of operating a lighting assembly in a refrigerator appliance

A refrigerator appliance includes a liner positioned within a cabinet, the liner having an inner liner surface that defines a chilled chamber and an aperture that passes through the liner. A light assembly is mounted to the liner and includes a light source positioned within a light housing in the insulated space between the liner and the cabinet. A lens is mounted to the light housing and is positioned within the aperture, the lens defining an outer lens surface that sits flush with the inner liner surface and an inner lens surface defining a plurality of refractive grooves.

A consumer appliance has a soft open door mechanism. The mechanism may include a damping device with a first end mounted to the cabinet and a second end mounted so as to move with the door. The damping device includes a partial fill damper activatable by an opening movement of the door toward the horizontal position to provide an opposing force to slow the door motion. The damper may be configured so as to initiate the opposing force only when the door has moved at least about 45 degrees from the upright position toward the horizontal position, and/or may be configured so that the damper includes a damping coefficient of about 200 to about 240 lb*s/ft.

Consumer appliance such as dishwasher with soft open door mechanism

An electrolytic sanitizer is disclosed for use in a dishwasher holding a salt solution, the dishwasher having a water rinse cycle. A spaced anode and cathode are provided in contact with the salt solution in the dishwasher. A source of current provides a voltage across the anode and cathode to generate chlorine from the salt solution, the chlorine being introduced into the water rinse cycle to sanitize objects in the dishwasher.
